    27. The "Hip" Professor" with Kara Kilfoil

Watch your grammar on this week's episode of The Tingles! Our hosts Bob and Mike welcome Kara Kilfoil, professor of English at Saint Francis Xavier University, mother of three teens and fan of all things Gord Downie and The Tragically Hip.

Kara's journey from Musquodoboit to Calgary and eventually back to her home province is dotted with musical adventures, from her discovery of cool new music at Cafe Ole in Halifax (where she may have seen Bob's old band) to Red Rocks Amphitheatre (where she definitely did not) and countless shows and experiences in between.

Kara puts her PhD to work as we discuss lyrics as poetry and the transcendent nature of the right song at the right moment. We also talk vinyl collections and of course, Gord Downie. Join us for another excellent musical adventure on Episode 27 of The Tingles.

    26. Capturing Connection w/ David Goldman

    26. Capturing Connection w/ David Goldman

On our 26th episode of the Tingles, we welcome renowned photographer David Goldman to the show. Born and raised in Toronto, a broken heart set David on a journey that took him first to Aspen, then to Los Angeles. After starting out as a photographer's assistant, he got behind the camera lens himself, snapping photos and portraits of celebrities in LA and New York City.
As his career blossomed, music and musicians seamlessly integrated into the fabric of his portfolio. Notably, his iconic contribution to Blink-182's 'Enema of the State' album artwork stands as a hallmark of the pop-punk explosion in the late 1990s.
David's insatiable sense of exploration has propelled him worldwide on humanitarian photojournalism missions and cross-country motorcycle journeys, utilizing the power of visual storytelling to bring attention to critical causes and fascinating subjects.
Join us as we uncover the connection between the music he loves, the stories behind those songs, and how music and his photographic art interconnect.

    23. U Tingle 2? | A deepdive into the music of U2

    23. U Tingle 2? | A deepdive into the music of U2

This week our hosts and brothers-from-different-mothers, Mike and Bob, take a deep dive into arguably the biggest Irish musical export since the uilleann pipes.

U2 exploded from the Emerald Isle in the late 1970s with music that vibrated with anger and protest and energy. Throughout the 80s their music matured, but their style remained easily identifiable. The 90s were a decade of exploration, with Bono, The Edge, Larry and Adam pushing musical boundaries, mixing sound and visuals into grandiose concert productions. The double-naughts saw the band release some of their biggest singles; anthems specifically created for the huge stadium shows that by now had become the hallmark of the band.

And through it all, as any true U2 fans would, Bob and Mike have argued over the best era of the band. Bob favours the 90s and beyond but Mike stubbornly refuses to leave the 80s and argues for that era as the best U2 Tingles period. Which U2 incarnation will win the battle of the Feels? Find out on the latest episode of the Tingles!
