Torture Jams Torture Jams

We're ending the first season with a throwback to the playlist that started it all: Good Time Summer Torture Jamz 2018. This week's episode was recorded in a pool on the 4th of July and features bands that have 3 letters in their name. Our guests are Mike and Sara Mae.
The audio quality is pretty awful, but not sure what we were expecting recording outside on a day when people like to blow off fireworks.

Dave joins us for our first ever attempt at a Zoom podcast. It works out mostly okay. Despite some technical difficulties, Dave proves himself near Torture Jam expert on a theme of songs that include "She" in the title of the song.

Our guest this week is Adam for one of the most ultimate Torture Jam challenges thus far: songs that kind of remind me of the Paula Cole song "Where Have All the Cowboys Gone". They don't have to do with cowboys and they don't really sound like the Paula Cole song either. Regardless, I established a mental connection in the back of brain that makes me think of that song every time I hear one of these.. for reasons that seem, at best, random to meaningless.

Most of this show is firmly rooted in the 90s and 00s, but we're going a generation back for our special guest this week -- my dad, in an episode we're calling "My Dad Can Beat Your Dad at Torture Jams".
We discuss the history of Arena Rock, the concerts we dragged each other to over the years, and my dad shares anecdotes about being a teenager in the early 80s. Tune into find out if you remember the songs my dad grew up on better than he does.

In 2008, Vanilla Ice released his comeback album, Vanilla Ice is Back!, a collection of covers of classic hip hop and reggae songs. It might be the strangest thing we've encountered in researching for this podcast, and that's why we're dedicating the entire show to playing back some of our favorite tracks.

Our guest this week is Karen Ann, a person with shockingly little knowledge of pop culture. Which is why we're turning the show on it's head by playing the opposite of a torture jam. Instead of songs that faded into obscurity, these are all bands that are household names and continue to achieve massive mainstream radio play. We're going to see how close to the sun we can fly and still stump our guest.
