Whose Slave Are You? [Hint: You Belong to SOMEONE]
Chapters
00:00 Introduction and Opening Scripture
08:05 Expository Preaching and the Book of Romans
15:25 The Consequences of Choosing Sin
39:45 Eternal Life and Freedom as a Slave of God
Scripture
Romans 6:16-23– Don’t you realize that you become (are) the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living. 17 Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have given you. 18 Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living. 19 Because of the weakness of your human nature, I am using the illustration of slavery to help you understand all this. Previously, you let yourselves be slaves to impurity and lawlessness, which led ever deeper into sin. Now you must give yourselves to be slaves to righteous living so that you will become holy. 20 When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the obligation to do right. 21 And what was the result? You are now ashamed of the things you used to do, things that end in eternal doom. 22 But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Takeaways
Everyone is a slave to something; we must choose whether to serve sin or God.
Choosing sin leads to death, while choosing God leads to righteous living and freedom.
Being in control of our own lives is a misconception; we surrender to the Lord of this earth.
Serving God is a choice that brings life and freedom. Being a slave to God means surrendering our lives completely to His will and trusting that He is a perfect and loving master.
Choosing to be a slave to God leads to righteous living, holiness, and sanctification.
We should serve God with the same passion and dedication that we once served sin.
Being a slave to God leads to eternal life and freedom from the power of sin.

How to Break Free from Destructive Habits & Mindsets: Conduct a Funeral to Be FREE! [Romans 6:1-4]
Summary
In this sermon, titled 'Get Out and Stay Out,' Pastor Adam explores the concept of new life in Christ and the importance of leaving behind the old self. The speaker emphasizes that the grace of God is powerful enough to cover any sin, but that does not give believers a license to continue in sin. Instead, believers are called to have a funeral for the old self and embrace the newness of life in Christ. The conversation explores the theme of victory and freedom in the Christian faith. It draws parallels between the conquest of cities in the book of Joshua and the believer's journey of overcoming sin and old mentalities. The speaker emphasizes that although there may still be battles to be fought, believers are no longer slaves to sin and have already won the victory through Jesus. The conversation also highlights the importance of putting to death old habits and attitudes and embracing the newness of life in Christ. The speaker encourages listeners to consider their eternal identity and the parts of themselves that will remain in heaven.
Chapters
00:00 Introduction and Overview of the Book of Romans
08:16 The Proposition of Continuing in Sin to Abound in Grace
26:29 Having a Funeral for the Old Self and Embracing the Newness of Life in Christ
37:06 Conquering Cities: The Journey of Victory and Freedom
44:24 Living in the Newness of Life: Embracing Your Eternal Identity
Takeaways
The grace of God is powerful enough to cover any sin, but believers should not use it as an excuse to continue in sin.
Believers are called to have a funeral for the old self and embrace the newness of life in Christ.
Baptism symbolizes the death and burial of the old self and the resurrection to new life in Christ.
The resurrection of Jesus is only made possible by his death, and believers are called to follow in his footsteps.
The new life in Christ requires a renewal of the mind and a willingness to let go of old habits, attitudes, and mentalities. Believers have already won the victory over sin and old mentalities through Jesus.
Although there may still be battles to be fought, believers are no longer slaves to sin.
It is important to put to death old habits and attitudes and embrace the newness of life in Christ.
Consider what parts of yourself will remain in eternity and let go of anything that does not align with your eternal identity.
