75 – Quarter Quell 3 – Movies We Wanted To Be When We Grew Up

Each Host Brings A Film That Influenced Who They Are

This week, we’re changing up the format for our 75th Episode Quarter Quell Special! It’s our third Quell as Fighting in The War Room, and we’re getting all nostalgic again. Katey, Da7e, David and Patches have each brought a film that they wanted to be when they grew up. Katey always wanted to be Marty McFly from Back to the Future, Da7e wishes he were Penny Marshall’s Big, David sees himself in James L. Brooks’ Broadcast News and Patches, perhaps predictably, chooses earnest love-of-teaching-music movie Mr. Holland’s Opus.

    REVIEW – Inside Out

    REVIEW – Inside Out

    Is Pixar really back?

This week, Katey (Joy), Patches (Sadness), and David (Anger) navigate the mind of Pixar’s latest, Inside Out, to understand what makes it tick. Or just enjoy how lovely it is. Plus, a brief review of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl.

    REVIEW – Jurassic World

    REVIEW – Jurassic World

    Awe? No.

This week, Katey and Patches swap out Daves for a review of Colin Trevorrow’s new Jurassic Park movie, the fourth one, Jurassic World. Will the three hosts be able to look past the groundbreaking original and enjoy this action movie that tries to comment on itself, or is this Spielberg riff to riff-y for our critics liking? Katey and Da7e seem a bit more open to what Jurassic World is throwing down than Patches, so it’s up to you: Are you going to the dinosaur park?

74 – Too Many Crowdfunds, Not Enough Effort

And isn’t Jurassic Park the best?

This week, Katey, Patches and David have sent Da7e to Jurassic World, so they soldier on without him. Cut off from the outside, Katey wants to discuss Sundance’s The Wolfpack and the boys help her out, a mini-segment on Jurassic Park wonders if it’s perfect. Finally, in honor of Uwe Boll’s rant when his Kickstarter didn’t get funded, it’s time to re-evaluate the service’s purpose once again. This can’t be it, can it?

73 – No Fighting in the Entourage

73 – No Fighting in the Entourage

And which host is which Game of Thrones character?

This week – Oh YEAH (Oh Yeah (oh yeah (ohyeah))) it’s an all dude ‘cast as Patches, Da7e and David are down a Katey. It’s appropriate that this is also the week an Entourage movie comes out, so these three guys talk about why the series seems mostly hated this time around. Then, in a segment inspired by Patches’ dinner small talk, each host has to cast the FITWR line-up as Game of Thrones characters (surprisingly no one is Hodor). Finally, David wonders if wanting to see your political ideals reflected onscreen sometimes hurts cinema by throwing the baby out with the nitpicky bathwater.

72 – Disaster Movies Kill Our Future

And we round up Cannes so you don’t have to

This week, Katey, Patches, Da7e and David want to take Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland bait and wonder if liking disaster cinema is feeding into a gross human part of all of us that is cynical and dying. Granted, that’s not what all four hosts believe…let’s just say someone should be ready for the zombie apocalypse. Also: Patches says that The Phantom Menace is a better movie than Return of the Jedi and in certain circles, dem’s fightin’ words. Finally: Katey, Da7e and Patches each mention one Cannes film they’re interested in and David talks about a good half dozen.
