In this episode of the Y talk Climate Podcast, we discuss the amazing work of SURGE, a non-profit that aims to protect shorelines using living breakwaters made from oyster reefs co-founded by our guest Will Crolla. We explore oyster and kelp farming and ocean-based community engagement through Will's experience with two youth-capacity building programs: OceanBridge and CityHive Envirolab. Finally, we discuss the importance of accepting that climate change impacts are occurring and viewing nature-based adaptation solutions as an essential tool for building resiliency within our communities.  

In this episode's second part, we continue our discussion with BCCIC’s delegates who attended the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW): Patashi Pimm’s, Anique Vadnais, and Vib Wadhwa. In this segment, we dive into discussions of intersectionality in climate action, the diverse perspectives of climate justice between the Global North and Global South, and advice for young leaders who strive to make a change in gender equality and climate justice.

In this two part episode of the Y talk Climate Podcast, we host a panel with three of BCCIC's delegates: Patashi Pimms, Anique Vadnais, and Vib Wadhwa, who attended the 66th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). The delegates highlight key takeaways from the Commission, exploring topics such as the importance of accessibility to UN events, the value of lived experience and generational, local, and traditional knowledge, and the call for the UN to expand on the definition of women. Additionally, we explore the creative climate solutions that develop when women and gender-diverse groups have the same access to opportunities and resources. 

In this episode of the Y Talk Climate Podcast, we discuss the amazing work of our guests, Michelle and Jeremy Muchilwa, who are the cofounders of Osiepe Sango (Friends of Lake Victoria), an organization that seeks to restore the Lake Victoria ecosystem. During the pandemic, they developed the Ziwa Safi Citizen App, which empowers their community to collect data on plastic pollution in order to make the local change themselves. Additionally, they highlight the issues of plastic pollution in Lake Victoria, the significance of youth summits with a local focus, the challenges of balancing school and environmental organizing, and the importance of adult allies in amplifying youth voices from the Global South in climate action.
