Youth and Heritage Youth Heritage Society

In our second session of Sampada Sikshya, we will be discussing how youth can be a part of heritage campaigning and raise voices against the illegal and unhealthy undertakings. Involvement of youth and communities is significant in the conservation of cultural landscapes. Therefore it is important for preparing youth attracted to the heritage legacy and ready to take initiation and advocacy.



We have Alok Siddhi Tuladhar as a facilitator for the second session.



Alok Siddhi Tuladhar

Alok Siddhi Tuladhar is a documentary filmmaker, with special interest in the documentation of Nepal's heritage, both natural and man-made. Recently, he have turned an activist for the preservation of Nepalese cultural legacy, as he see great value in it for our prosperous future. Earlier, he worked in the field of computer software for more than two decades.

Similarly, we have three brilliant initiatives from amazing people into heritage campaigning from their individual and group efforts towards educating and sustaining the heritage knowledge and practices.



Alina Tamrakar, Cofounder of Baakhan Nyane Waa

Baakhan Nyane Waa as the title says is a call to come and listen to stories. It is a youth led initiative to continue, document and share the culture of oral storytelling culture of Newa civilization.



Lorina Sthapit, Cofounder of Aji's

Aji's is a social enterprise that empowers our elders to live healthy and happy lives by providing a platform to showcase their skills and knowledge.



Sunita Dangol, Cofounder of Callijatra.

Callijatra is a youth group promoting our indigenous scripts and language currently focusing on Nepal Script, Ranjana script and  Nepal bhasa creating educational materials and conducting various workshops.

Sampada Sikshya is a learning-sharing session on the knowledge and perception of heritage and society. We bring in professional and heritage-lover to speak on their wider cultural understanding and diversities.

In our first session of Sampada Sikshya, we kicked off with the basics of understanding the heritage. We discussed on learning and acquiring knowledge on heritage, its values, how youth can play a pivotal role in preserving the heritage and collectively as a sense of identity and social belongingness.

We had a instructor, Sanjay Adhikari who is a Public Interest Litigator currently doing Masters of Law. He uses the law as a tool to protect Natural and Cultural Heritage. He has filed various cases to protect the Kathmandu World Heritage Site, Lumbini World Heritage Site as well as many historical monuments like palaces, ponds, and hitis. Similarly, he along with other activist has filed FIR against government employees for the omission of duty leading to the destruction of Rani Pokhari. He is also a campaigner to protect open spaces, guthi lands, and advocates for the dignity of the indigenous community.
