The Deschutes River is a very popular place for summer recreation in Bend. However, rafting, kayaking and other water activities are interrupted by the Colorado Street Dam, causing injuries and even claiming lives over the years. Those who want to enjoy the river must get out and walk around the dam at that point in the river.
The Bend Parks and Recreation District is looking to solve the problem by reshaping the river to make it one continuous trip.
