    • Society & Culture

“When I began to create my own film SLEEP, I realized that I was trying to mimic consciously and unconsciously what I observed director Bong Joon-ho do in OKJA movie.

And every step of the way, I realized that everything I learnt about filmmaking, I learnt from OKJA and director Bong.”

Pour ce 43ème épisode, Linda rencontre Jason Yu.

C’est notre premier épisode en anglais.

Our guest today comes from South Korea. He is a film director, he worked closely with Bong Joon-Ho, we saw him in Cannes Festival in 2023 for his first movie “Sleep”, nominated for the Critics’ Week Grand Prize and Golden Camera, and he just won the top award at Gérardmer International Fantastic Film Festival, my guest for this episode is Jason Yu.

How do you feel winning the top prize at Gérardmer

How did you get the idea of this black comedy, horror, thriller movie for your debut as a film director ?

Why did you choose to picture the family like this ?

How you can connect with western cultures ?

Do you have any inspiration or influences in movies from France or western cultures ? and from Asia ?

How do you feel about the evolution of the South Korean Cinema industry on the world stage ?

You worked closely with Bong Joon-Ho, in the assistant director team in Okja movie. He was also your mentor. What did you learn by working with him ?

What are your advices to the young generation who wants to follow your path ?

Why do you think it’s important nowadays to have this solidarity among artists ?

This is our first episode in English highlighting an emerging and talented director from South Korea navigating his journey as a filmmaker and make his dream come true.
