The 2024 Pathologists Leadership Summit took place in mid-April and featured the Spring House of Delegates meeting, educational courses, Advocacy programing, and our annual Hill Day. For this episode, we revisit the Pathologists Leadership Summit with two CAP leaders. Dr. Sang Wu is speaker of the CAP’s House of Delegates. And, Dr. Mary Le is the vice chair for the CAP Federal and State Affairs Committee.

This month we have a conversation with Dr. Andres Romero about the Conrad 30 waiver program and what it means to physicians like him. We’ll also review a boost to Medicare pay in the new spending bill, calls to address the shortage in the health care workforce, and the CAP president's testimony to Congress regarding LDTs.

The CAP Foundation aims to develop tomorrow's pathology leaders through awards for advanced training, research, and education, as well as to mobilize pathologists to expand health equity in medically underserved communities within the US and globally. This CAPcast episode features a panel discussion between three recipients of Foundation grants and awards: Dr. Amanda Herrmann (2021 Leadership Development Award), Dr. Matthew Luo (2021 Informatics Award), and Dr. Kelsey Hummel (2023 Global Pathology Development Grant). Dr. Masa Peric, junior member of the CAP Foundation Board of Directors, serves as moderator, asking panelists about their experiences with the grants and awards, as well as tips and advice for applying.

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. In this episode, Gladell Paner, MD, FCAP, talks with gastrointestinal pathologists Dhanpat Jain, MD, FCAP, and Adam Booth, MD, FCAP, about how the CAP Biomarker Reporting Protocols were developed and used in practice.

This month we look at the historic benchmarks earned by the CAP’s Pathologists Quality Registry, advocacy wins and strides in the private sector, changes to an FDA reclassification process and more. We also speak with Matthew Foster, MD, FCAP, about Hill Day at the 2024 Pathologists Leadership Summit, key policy requests, and why it's important for CAP members to get involved.

World Cancer Day is recognized around the world on February 4th to raise awareness of and encourage the prevention, detection, and treatment of cancer.
