Israel had been in captivity for 70 years. They had experienced desolation and disappointment. But God had a plan to make this desolate people fruitful. In our text today, God pictures Israel as a barren woman who is told to expand her home. She is told to make preparations and expansions for the future even though her womb is empty. This woman is not told to wait but to begin enlarging, stretching, and building for what is to come. As she builds, she sings… Not because she has the answer yet but because she believes in the promises of God. Notice in our text how this faith-filled woman builds in anticipation of the future and what has not even arrived yet.

In 2 Cor 8:1-7, the apostle Paul, touched by the generosity of fellow Christians in Macedonia, encourages the church at Corinth to follow in their example of enthusiasm, joining in the support and expansion of the gospel through their offerings. In 2 Corinthians 9, Paul continues his exhortation of how God will use their gifts to meet the growing needs and, while doing so, bring their hearts to an overflow of thanksgiving. God pours out His mercy to us so that we may overflow in ministry to others as a testimony of His goodness.

All of our lives, whether we realize it or not, we have been trained to seek treasure. We chase a dollar, we seek promotion, we invest to make more, we build accounts of cash flow so that we can know for sure we will be "taken care of" later in life. However, Jesus warns us against that kind of dependency on ourselves. He calls it treasure storing here on earth. As he often does, Jesus challenges our conventional wisdom to remind us where all things come from, how all that overflow that comes our way is God's blessing us for a purpose. His blessings are given in overflow so that we may share those blessings with others. Today's message will challenge all of us, to see ourselves as God's managers of His overflow, and agents of His kindness and generosity to those around us. In doing so, we find our treasure in Him, a trust that finds confidence in His abundance, not our own.

In Ezekiel 47, Ezekiel is standing in God’s temple, which has now been restored, and His glory is in it. But as Ezekiel‘s angel tour guide shows him, God’s glory and power are not to remain within the walls. God’s glory and power are to leave the walls of that structure, and as it does, it transforms everything it touches. As God‘s power leaves those walls, so does Ezekiel. Join us Sunday as we discuss the depth of our faith in moving from ankle-deep to waist-deep.

A seemingly random story in the middle of Acts inspires us how to better love the “Euthychuses” that are among us. Like Euthychus, we all have times where we fallen asleep. For many of us, the issue is not just that we’re asleep, but WHERE we have fallen asleep. Paul details for us how we too can come down from our upper rooms and how our drowsiness does not have to end in despair.
