Show 35 - Simon Richardson - Portrait of the Artist - Dunedin painter Simon Richardson was recently the only New Zealander to be a finalist for the coveted Archibald Prize for portraiture in Sydney. He has painted some of this country's most notable artists, writers, academics and sportspeople. Simon talks to Sally about striving for the 'precious' quality of Old Master portraits, and what it's like to work in sittings with his famous subjects, including some much-needed context for his controversial nude of former All Black Anton Oliver.
