Episode 7: #MeToo – The Sexual Harrassment Zeitgeist

Episode 7: #MeToo – The Sexual Harrassment Zeitgeist

Recorded just after the Harvey Weinstein allegations triggered a world-wide “outing” of women’s experiences of sexual harrassment and abuse, this is a special episode of Just Breeze (or as it’s now known, the Coco & Louise Podcast) where Coco and Louise share their own experiences of sexual harrassment.

This episode is particularly personal and has deliberately not been edited. It is raw, it is emotional, it is moving, and it is REAL.

We discuss the topic from a global perspective, a personal perspective, and also explore ways young women may learn to protect themselves from predatory behaviour, and how to be more powerful in your interactions with men in a the patriarchal system we continue to live in.

(We have made the decision to change the name of our podcast to the Coco & Louise Podcast, and although some of our recordings will still refer to the Just Breeze Podcast – those recorded prior to our name change – we will now officially be the Coco & Louise Podcast. Updates to this website will be made accordingly – when time permits! 🙂 )

JB006 Embracing Change – Just Breeze Podcast

JB006 Embracing Change – Just Breeze Podcast

Change is constant. Embracing change is the challenge we constantly face. And most of us don’t like it very much, at least initially.

But change doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad or confronting thing. Change can be exciting and full of hope and possibility. It’s all in our interpretation and  in the way we structure our story around it.

Questions Answered In This Podcast Episode

A: Whenever I realise my life is changing, whether I like it or not, I seem to go into a tailspin. I appear to need to spend a lot of time convincing myself I can handle it. Any comments?

E: Oh man I am terrible with change. I’d like to know how to better manage my anxiety. I seem to know how to handle it when things are stable, but have more panic and insomnia when there is a change, like travel, illness etc.

E: Also how does someone who has a need for control decide to take risks or manage the unknowns involved in change. Like deciding to take a new job. I have an opportunity to take a new job, but I’m comfortable and safe right now, so I’m having a hard time deciding whether the risks are worth it.

In this “Embracing Change” podcast we discuss:

    * Deliberately looking for small ways to challenge your fear of change

    * How changing our hairstyle or ‘look’ can be a way of practicing embracing change

    * Our fear of others’ opinions stopping us making changes

    * Looking at what we CAN control, rather than what you CAN’T?

    * You can’t control much but you can always control your thoughts, so make them serve you (using affirmations, distraction)

    * Chunking it up. In other words, taking one step at a time. “How do you eat an elephant?” “One bite at a time!” 🙂

    JB004 Forgiveness

    JB004 Forgiveness

Candid chat about how forgiveness differs from trust, finding your own peace when forgiveness from others is not forthcoming or possible, forgiving ourselves, letting go of being offended in the first place so there’s no need to forgive, and so much more, including a little Maya Angelou wisdom!

    Questions answered in this podcast:

Joanna – “In many cases you will never get it (forgiveness), so you have to learn to make your own peace” – we discuss the many situations where it is impossible to receive forgiveness from a person because they are no longer present in your life.

Pam – “It is when I’m trying hard to forgive but I can’t completely forget. When someone’s done something wrong towards me and asked for forgiveness, I can forgive but I don’t find it easy to trust that person again. Sometimes I’m not sure if I should trust the person again.”

Annys – “I feel that my experience so far re forgiveness has been that the more I understand about people’s experience, the more forgiveness seems irrelevant. Comments please?”

“When someone tells you who they are, listen to them the first time” ~Maya Angelou
