French 75: Carlos the Jackal/The French Flour Wars of 1775
While fancy-sipping some French 75 in beautiful Waterford Crystal Flutes, Shelley describes the life and times of infamous terrorist Carlos the Jackal. As a bonus she also recounts the time famed cyclist Eddy Merckx was punched during the Tour de France. Bekah talks about one of the lesser-known stories of pre-revolution France, The Flour War of 1775.
Drinking: The French 75
1 oz gin
½ oz fresh lemon juice
½ oz simple syrup
3 oz champagne or sparkling wine
Add all ingredients except champagne into shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into champagne flute. Top with champagne. Garnish with lemon twist.
Citrus Champagne Punch: Muhammad Ali/Lemons and the Sicilian Mafia
We talk boxing and mafia in this episode while sipping on Champagne Citrus Punch. Bekah explores the history of Cassius Clay and his evolution into Muhammad Ali. Shelley explains how the lemon industry gave rise to the mafia in Sicily.
Drinking: Champagne Citrus Punch
1/2 oz. ruby red grapefruit juice
1/2 oz. orange juice
1/2 oz. simple syrup
3 oz. champagne
Splash of grenadine
Combine grapefruit juice, orange juice, and simple syrup in glass. Stir to combine. Top with champagne and a splash of grenadine. Garnish with citrus slice or fresh edible flowers.
Greyhound: The Chowchilla Bus Kidnapping/Greyhound Racing
The drink is a little bitter and so are our stories. Shelley tells the harrowing tale of the Chowchilla bus kidnapping which changed the lives of dozens of children forever. Bekah explores the history of the greyhound as a dog breed and examines the legacy of racing and betting that the dog is known for.

On this last weekend of summer we drink the Endless Summer we talk heatwaves. Bekah recounts some historic heat waves that shaped how we deal with excessive heat to this day. Shelley tells the story of Jack Roland Murphy, or 'Murf the Surf.'
Drinking: ENDLESS SUMMER
1 oz gin
1 oz pineapple juice
¾ oz sweet vermouth
¾ oz campari
Pour all ingredients into a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a lowball glass with ice.
Spruce Goose: The Spruce Goose/Clifford Irving
While sipping on this sea plane inspired cocktail, Bekah talks about Howard Hughes' Spruce Goose. Shelley details the elaborate scheme to forge an autobiography of Hughes by writer Clifford Irving.
Drinking: Spruce Goose
1 ½ oz gin
¾ oz honey
¾ oz lime juice
¼ oz angostura bitters
2 oz tonic water
Combine all ingredients but tonic water into a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds. Strain and pour over ice into a collins glass. Top with tonic water.
Dark and Stormy: Bermuda Triangle/Natalie Wood
We go dark with the Dark and Stormy cocktail. Bekah gives us a brief history of the island of Bermuda, ghost ships, shipwrecks, and the Bermuda Triangle mystery. Shelley examines the timeline of events that led to Natalie Wood's death and the aftermath including naming Robert Wagner a person of interest.
Drinking: Dark and Stormy
2 oz. dark rum
1/2 tbsp ginger syrup or simple syrup
3 to 4 oz. ginger beer
2 lime wedges
1 or 2 slices fresh ginger (optional)
Fill an old fashioned glass with ice. Add fresh ginger. Add the rum and simple syrup and stir. Top with ginger beer. Squeeze a lime wedge over the drink and drop it in.
