    If you thought leprosy was eradicated long ago, you’re not alone. But each year, more than 200,000 people worldwide are diagnosed with the condition now known as Hansen’s disease, a bacterial infection that can cause irreparable damage if untreated. A UF team is putting science over stigma to stop the spread of Hansen’s disease in Florida and beyond.

Disney and his team at The Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute for Biomedical Innovation & Technology in Jupiter, Florida, have discovered more than 200 unique RNA-targeting compounds.
