Sustainable Food Systems with Sandra Murray
Have you ever had to chose between buying food and buying a textbook?
Surviving on a diet of mainly two-minute noodles, coffee, and plain pasta is a point of pride for many university students. But food insecurity is linked to a whole host of negative outcomes, including poor mental and physical health and – gasp! - bad grades.
This week on Sustainability @ UTAS, we look at the intersection between food and sustainability with lecturer Sandy Murray. We discuss designing sustainable food systems, the impact of food insecurity on students, and creating a new sustainable food culture at UTAS.
If you’re interested in getting involved with the Sustainable Food on Campus strategy, feel free to send Sandy an email at sandra.murray@utas.edu.au.

We also talk about all the ways that students can get started with sustainability on campus.

Episode 4 Waste
Often, the first thing we picture when we talk about sustainability is recycling bins. But there's a lot more to waste management than just chucking things in the yellow bin. Find out about how the University practices sustainable procurement, reuses furniture, and teaches students about what goes in what bin.

Episode 3 Transport
Thousands of students and staff driving to University campuses means a whole lot of greenhouse gas emissions. In this episode, we talk about all the projects the uni has created to encourage students to get to campus in a sustainable way.
