Celebrate with Enthusiasm
Today's text is from II Samuel 6:1-5, 14-19; Time of Action: about 1004 B.C.; Place of Action: Gibeah and Jerusalem Golden Text: “And David and all the house of Israel played before the Lord on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals” (II Samuel 6:5).
The obscurity of the ark, during the reign of Saul, had been as great a grievance to Israel as the insults and defeat at the hands of the Philistines. David, having humbled the Philistines by defeating them on two different occasions now felt the need to bring the Ark of the Covenant to the city of David, Jerusalem, so that it would be near him, and also be an ornament and strength to his new capital city.
This verse says “And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.” Once the Ark of God had finally arrived in Jerusalem and placed in the Tabernacle that “David” had prepared for it (see I Chronicles 16:1), all the musicians played their instruments
