WHAT LUTHERANS BELIEVE
The Christian church is made up of those who have been baptized and thus have received Christ as the Son of God and Savior of the world. Sometimes it is referred to as "the Body of Christ." Lutherans believe that they are a part of a community of faith that began with the gift of the Holy Spirit, God's presence with his people, on the day of Pentecost. The church, regardless of the external form it takes, is the fellowship of those who have been restored to God by Christ. Indeed, to be called into fellowship with Christ is also to be called into community with other believers.

The church is essential to Christian life and growth. Its members are all sinners in need of God's grace. It has no claim on human perfection. The church exists solely for the hearing and doing of God's Word. It can justify its existence only when it proclaims the living Word of Christ, administers the Sacraments and gives itself to the world in deeds of service and love. We recognize a wider fellowship of churches and are eager to work alongside them in ecumenical ministries and projects.

All visitors to Christ Lutheran Church are invited to participate in any of our ministries and to worship with us! We welcome all baptized believers to the Lord's table, and we invite you to share the Eucharist with us. As a visitor, you are welcome in this congregation, and we hope that you will consider making it your new church home.

If you would like to learn more about membership, please contact the church office at 210-822-3394.

    CLC Sermon 2-5-17

    CLC Sermon 2-5-17

The Gospel comes from Matthew 5, where Jesus used concept of salt and light to describe His followers in the world:

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.”

Salt preserved food in the Middle Eastern desert. And like salt, believers in Christ are preservatives to the world.

Pastor Leslie unravels the kind of people in our lives today who act like salt and light in the world.

    CLC Sermon Christmas Day

    CLC Sermon Christmas Day

    Merry Christmas!

On this joyous day, Pastor Leslie talks about the duties and work that goes into the celebration. But we refocus on the meaning when thinking about baptism: "Sustain (your name) with the gift of the Holy Spirit, the spirit of wisdom and understanding; the spirit of counsel and of might; the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord; the spirit of joy in your presence, both now and forever; child of God you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of Christ forever."

The stress and challenge of the holiday can be put into perspective with the reminder of these words. Care for all of God's children as if they are our brothers and sisters -- because they are, Pastor Leslie says.

    CLC Sermon 10-30-16

    CLC Sermon 10-30-16

On this Reformation Sunday, Pastor Leslie preaches from John 8. What does grace look like? We are welcome and forgiven of God's grace; transformed because of His Grace.

And on a day when our church remembers it's roots, Pastor Leslie says: "It's not what we have done, but what God has done in us."
