Episode 26 - The evolutionary time machine

Episode 26 - The evolutionary time machine

Welcome to Episode 26 of Slightly Evolved! This week our guest is Dr Luisa Orsini, lecturer at the University of Birmingham, UK.

Luisa talks to us about her work on Daphnia, a fascinating system where you able to "resurrect" dormant individuals that are sometimes 100s of years old. We talk about how you can use the system to test for recent adaptation, and discuss the importance of taking a multi -omics approach for studying evolution.

Episode 25 - Navigating the genomic landscape

Welcome to Episode 25 of Slightly Evolved! This week we talk to Dr Mark Ravinet, a researcher at the University of Oslo.

Mark takes us on a journey from his roots as a geographer to working on one of the most hotly debated topics in evolutionary biology: speciation. We discuss a recent targeted review he was the lead author of "Interpreting the genomic landscape of speciation", and talk about the quest and challenges to finding loci that contribute to reproductive isolation among populations.

You can find the review and the other commentaries in the special issue here: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jeb.2017.30.issue-8/issuetoc
