On this week’s episode of True Crime New England, Katie and Liz talk about one of the most publicized cases in Rhode Island’s history. Socialite and multimillionaire, Sunny von Bülow, had been married to rich oilman, Claus von Bülow, for quite some time when their marriage began to sour. In December of 1980, Sunny was found unconscious on the floor of her Rhode Island mansion, where she was discovered to be extremely hypothermic. Sunny would then sustain permanent brain damage and remain in a coma for the next 28 years. The only question: what happened? Was this an accident at the hands of Sunny, or was she harmed intentionally?

Join Katie and Liz on another round of case profiles where they talk about people of color whose crime stories just do not get enough media attention. In this mini-episode, Liz starts off by telling the details of the shooting of LaRay Moore in Connecticut in 2006. His killer remains at large to this day. Then, Katie finishes off the episode by telling the story of Juan Oquenda, who, in 2006, was stabbed to death outside of a Connecticut bar. His murder is also still unsolved to this day. Daniel LaPlante, who had a pension for sneaking into homes just for the thrill of scaring people, decided to take his evil desires to the next level. After serving time in juvenile court for that and being released on bail, in 1987, Daniel went from psychological torture to physical homicide, killing a mom and her two young children. On this week’s episode of True Crime New England, Katie and Liz discuss the horrifying details of the murder of young mom Karen Clarke and her 8-year-old son, Leroy “BJ” Brown Jr. In 1997, BJ was in the car with his mom’s boyfriend in Bridgeport, Connecticut when shots were fired in an attempt to kill the boyfriend. BJ was unharmed, but turned out to be a really reliable witness. When the perpetrator discovered the identity of the boy who ratted him out, he finished the job of his first attempt, and then made moves to eliminate the star witness of his trial and ended up killing his mother too.
