Debanjana Das on the Disconnect between Climate Scientists and Climate Activists

For Season 3, Episode 3, Nnennaya interviewed performing artist and climate scientist, Dr. Debanjana Das. Assistant Research Scientist at Howard University's NOAA Center in Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology. She leads research projects on climate extremes, and global climate change, conducting numerical experiments using global models, and their implications for climate justice. Her latest research paper, "Tropical Cyclonic Energy Variability in North Indian Ocean: Insights from ENSO," has recently been accepted for publication. Beyond scientific research, Dr. Das also worked in stage and film production as an artistic director, choreographer, and executive production designer for a number of notable Indian movies. She obtained her Ph.D. and Master's degree from the University of Calcutta, India. She engages in research projects fostering collaborations with faith-based indigenous communities and the Weather Water Enterprise. She integrates her scientific expertise with her artistic abilities, utilizing dance as a powerful medium to facilitate climate conversations and promote dialogue about climate justice. Nnennaya connected with Dr. Das last fall after she shared her expertise on climate modeling with her Global Climate Change class. They ended up speaking on the amount of climate scientists/ researchers actually involved in activist/law-making spaces. They expanded on this and more in episode 3: The Disconnect between Climate Scientists and Climate Activists. Thank you so much to Dr. Das for joining us this season on ‘Is It Hot Enough For Ya?’ Connect with our guest: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-debanjana-das-8a0ab24a
