Episode 14, September 2019 • The Face • Penny Martin • Marie Claire The magCulture Podcast

    • Arts

Our latest Podcast, recorded at the magCulture Shop in London, is a bumper edition that hangs loosely around the theme of change.

The episode opens with Jeremy and Liv flicking through recent new mags, starting with The Face, freshly relaunched after a 15 year hiatus. Can it possibly live up to expectations?

The pair also look at this year’s print edition of gal-dem and the exciting new Buffalo Zine, and are joined briefly by Erik from Lyrics As Poetry before heading off down a crazy magazine archeaology rabbit hole with guest Danny No.

The ups and downs of the contemporary women’s magazine are reflected in the next two guests: Marie O’Riordan, editor of Marie Claire from 2001-2008, reflects on the demise of the magazine’s print edition. And Penny Martin, editor-in-chief of The Gentlewoman, discusses her magazine’s tenth anniversary. Both highlight the need for character and USP in a magazine.

There’s just time for a Back Issue – the first ever edition of Berlin’s 032c, a very different publication to today’s glossy quarterly – before the episode signs off with news of changes of our own.
