The gift of prayer is being able to put your life into God’s hands, and trust the path that opens before you. When you meet God in prayer, it can change you. It brings you under Christ’s influence so he may think his thoughts in your mind and do his work through your hands.

Understanding yourself and God’s will for you is one thing. Overcoming the barriers to doing his will can be quite different. But you can pray to God for his protection and power to hold and lead you and meet your needs; for his wisdom to teach and guide you.

When you are surrounded by trouble, you can call on the name of the Lord in prayer, and trust his protection. There are also times when our trust can get shaky, and we need the faith and prayers of our church family to help us on our life journeys.

This episodes thinks about the way Jesus prayed for those who believe in him, and what his example teaches about how we can pray for others.

Sharing prayer in common with other believers, helps us to be one body. It can be hard to live in ways that are consistent with God’s values and Jesus’ teaching. Common prayer can help disrupt our reality and refocus it on God. It can reshape our perceptions and lives with new rhythms and a new story.

When your life situations cause you sadness, get you down, leave you grieving, make you want to give up, and give you a heavy heart, Jesus wants to clothe you in a garment of praise to replace your spirit of heaviness and despair.
