“REMEMBERING OUR NAMES” Tribute to Mental Health Awareness Month With Christine Samuel Revive Ministries

    • Mental Health

Welcome to Revive Ministries Podcast. As we go into May, we are reminded of how far mental health has come since the turn of the 20th century to where we are today. However, there is still so much work left to be done. Last month, I mentioned this African Proverb, and I feel it is still relevant to this month’s theme.

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go with others.” – African proverb.

“Remembering Our Names” is a response I felt having struggled in my life with mental health issues. The idea is that mental health can be inconvenient and a struggle for the individual and family/support to adjust. Several factors may play a role in a person getting appropriate help. At times the questions of why we care about mental health is simpler: the individual who suffering is a daughter, son, wife husband, parent whose quality and value does not diminish due to them having a mental health condition, and to instead remember their names in our lives first. This month, we will discuss and/or share experiences that promote a community that supports those struggling with a mental health condition together, as the African proverb states.

Today, Christine Samuel is here to discuss this matter with us. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and insights with us today.

“Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” — Mark Twain
