From late 1989 to the Fall of 1990 the bodies of 7 men were discovered along Florida’s highways.
An area prostitute was tracked down at The Last Resort, biker bar in Volusia County and taken into custody. Aileen Wuornos, known as “Lee” confessed to all of the murders. Considered the first female serial killer in a non-caregiving capacity, she was convicted and sentenced to death. Making her the tenth woman in the United States and the second in Florida to be executed since the 1976 United States Supreme Court decision restoring capital punishment.
