Are You Investing? Grow Your Oak with Acorns‪!‬ Wilderness Mama

    • Nature

You’re probably wondering why I’m talking about investing? For a few different reasons. One. Because it’s something I would like to start talking to my daughters about.. I know, they’re only 4 & 2 but I don’t think it’s ever too early. I often hear people say, they weren’t taught about finances until it was too late. For me, my dad taught me to invest at a very young age. However; when I decided to make a career change that didn’t pay well and had zero benefits, we had our second daughter and because I didn’t pre-plan like I should have, I cashed out everything I had invested, as my maternity funds. I wasn’t impressed with myself, but I didn’t see another way to support my family. So, when I heard about Acorns from David Bach’s podcast – I looked into it immediately. I enrolled myself, and I enrolled my kids- I was even able to download an ebook that my kids can read! Which is super important to me. How does it work? I took a survey that gave Acorns an idea of how risky I wanted to invest and they chose where to invest. I set up an automatic withdrawal for $5 per week… you can choose $3 or even $1 – and that’s why I like it. It’s not a lot, but it’s a start! They also have offers from hundreds of companies, for example, if you sign up for Thrive Market or refinance your student loans, they will in turn, invest in your portfolio. The website is user friendly and easy to understand, which makes the entire process more rewarding!
