Mommying While Muslim is a one of a kind podcast where two American born and bred Muslim moms share their experiences to raise second generation kids. Having experienced both pre and post 9/11 America, they're acutely aware of the unique challenges their families face on top of the regular messes that all moms share. Mommying While Muslim is a space to take back their stories, and tell those no one will air on the news or portray fully or fairly in the media. Zaiba Hasan and Uzma Jafri are moms first, careerwomen second, and global citizens at heart. They meet taboo topics head on because they weren't allowed to do it growing up, not at home or at school and work. They aim to better their immediate households, communities, and their momsisterhood the world over by telling the truths sometimes people don't want to face or to hear. Not everyone has the privileges they have and they are eager to learn, more than they are to share their own experiences. Always looking to give back, they find women and families who need a mic because no one needs a voice; they just need an opportunity to speak. Besides tough social issues, they also tackle political ones because when laws affect their kids, they're coming for them as well as the ones who make them! There's no lane that doesn't get taken here. Along the way, they recruit momallies for Muslim Americans who have been inordinately targeted for the last 20 years. True moms know that ALL our children deserve to be safe, loved, and happy, and we bust every yellow brick on the Islamaphobic road to make sure they all are. If you like good trouble, this one's for you!

SERIES: A Tribute to Gazan Moms: Gazan Moms of the Diaspora

Did you know that much of the Palestinian diaspora is forbidden by Israel to return to Palestine, despite Article 13(2) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which requires nations to ensure the safe return of refugees to their homeland? Unless you know a Palestinian, you probably didn’t.
Amal Fayad is one such member of this diaspora, numbering in the millions across the world, who knows Gaza,  through the stories of her family. Both of her parents grew up in Gaza, but cannot go back, even with an American passport. Hear about her dad’s survival at sea as a toddler, her grandmother’s strength, as well as what “equal” rights currently means for Palestinian “citizens” of Israel.

Where Are Muslims on Campus Right Now?

Where Are Muslims on Campus Right Now?

We had too good a conversation not to make an episode out of it, and thank you to Shehla Faizi of @imamuslimpodcast for initiating it! Basically, like the majority of the country, we moms are asking:
WTH is going on on our student campuses? Why on earth would students put their education, finals, safety and futures on the line for Gazans they don’t even know? Why are peaceful student encampments met with such brutal force? Why is everyone vs. the students protesting genocide and not the actual genocide in Gaza? What can we do in solidarity with our students? If you take nothing else away from this conversation, SHOW UP.
Tune in to find out how to keep us safe! Stay safe out there, everyone! 👊🏽👊🏽

Replay: Perpetuity of Ramadan's Spiritual Productivity

Replay: Perpetuity of Ramadan's Spiritual Productivity

We are in dire need of it, hence the replay of Ustadha Hosai Mojaddidi's episode about impediments to spiritual consistency in our lives. While some folks tried to white knuckle it through Ramadan, we used it to treat our broken hearts and rage. But we are still worried about how to make the essence of this month make the world make sense after Eid. How do we carry our Ramadan routines forward past this blessed month and not lose the spiritual high we SO NEED right now?

Let’s talk about train cars, the myth of parental ownership, suhbah (spiritual companionship), acts of worship we can rely on no matter our stage of motherhood, and insha’Allah walk away feeling energized to maintain the magic of Ramadan, keeping up steam for the rest of the year. Allahuma ameen.

☪☪Tune in to this episode and share it with a friend who needs to keep filling her cup while she hits the streets and phone banks to stop a manmade catastrophe THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED if everyone paid more attention to ALL children, and not just their own.

Replay: This Isn't How I'm Supposed to Feel

Replay: This Isn't How I'm Supposed to Feel

This week's replay is Dr. Fareeha Malik, DDS, mom of 2 with a history of severe postpartum depression. PPD ended up informing her relationships and and even her reproduction.

Of course, we discuss how she she found healing. Bringing home a baby doesn’t always mean mom’s eternal happiness. Not all mothers feel “the way they should” after the baby is born, and may feel lost if they don’t know where to turn for resources. This endangers not only mom but also a newborn.

In a time when 14000 children have been unalived in a completely manmade g-cide, this episode still has its place as one of the struggles mothers face. And for those of our momsisters delivering via C-section without anesthesia, delivering prematurely due to stress, shock, and manmade famine, PPD is a real threat with deep seated claws. May Allah SWT first and foremost secure the survival of our momsisters and their newborns born in an ongoing g-cide, and protect them from every evil of the heart and mind, and destroy the enemies who threaten their physical states. Ameen.

We were so into the conversation that we didn't get to review the valuable resources we have for our community. check out the shownotes on our website or DM us.
