    In Conversation with Kelly Sagastume: Narratives of Child Victims of Human Trafficking and Areas for Structural Reform

    Kelly Sagastume is a social worker for the Support Center for Child Advocates, where she manages Project PROTECT, Philadelphia Response and Outreach To End Child Trafficking, and co-leads the Philadelphia Juvenile Anti-Trafficking Coalition. She is responsible for clients who are child victims of human trafficking (CVHT) with open cases in family and/or criminal court. Kelly also applies her expertise towards local resource development and advocating for macro-level policy change for CVHT. She is a graduate from University of Pennsylvania's School for Social Policy & Practice, where she received her Master's of Social Work with a specialization in Child Welfare and Child Well-being. 

    Class topics covered include: speaking for and about others; double binds; blaming the victim; simultaneity of oppressions; narratives, myths, and stories; institutionalized systems enabling bias offenses

    Dr. anupama jain is a long-time women's rights advocate and currently serves as the Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Gender Equity Commission, where she acts as the central liaison between diverse local stakeholders in conversations surrounding gender-based inequities. Her prior experiences include spearheading Inclusant, an organization that specializes in diversity and inclusion consulting, and teaching as a Literature and GSWS instructor at the University of Pittsburgh. In this episode, I speak with anu about the intricacies of how we communicate about gender and social identities via policy, rhetoric, and social structures.
