Bhasha Dibas - International Mother Language Day Kasturi Waves

    • Performing Arts

I am not a historian. The facts learnt through history books and the web form part of my narration.

Bangladesh got it's Independence from Pakistan on 16th December 1971. The revolt to separate from being part of Pakistan was fuelled by the parallel revolt of discarding the policy of adopting Urdu instead of the mother language of the erstwhile East Pakistan, Bengali. This is a rare example in World History, where a whole nation, irrespective of religious differences, fought together for reinstating the pride of their mother-language.

This is my humble tribute on the International Mother Language Day, to honour the brave-hearts who have sacrificed their lives for their mother-tongue and motherland and on the 50th year of the Independence.

Poems by : Shamsur Rehman, Mohit Chattopadhyay, Rehan Kaushik.
