Juan & Erica: Sandpaper and slip-and-slide stages plus the infamous refrigerated dressing room
Juan and Erica are a husband and wife salsa dance teaching duo in San Diego, CA and two of my favorite dancers, teachers, and people on the planet. Speaking of which, this down-to-earth couple took a 365 day trip abroad visiting and teaching salsa in 7 countries.
Juan and Erica launched a YouTube channel for salsa dancers called The Salsa Beat where they share tips to improve your salsa dancing, answer frequently asked questions about social dancing and share their appreciation for salsa music. This duo specializes in private one-on-one dance coaching, using a salsa dance curriculum they built together, drawing from decades of salsa experience, that continues to bring people from zero experience dancing to feeling confident on the dance floor. They are working on putting this curriculum online.
In this episode, we talk about:
-their trip abroad for a whole year visiting 7 countries and teaching more than 30 salsa dance workshops
-goals, obstacles, injuries, adaptation and longevity
-communication, dedication and how to make working together work

She had the honor of working with Tito Puente and Lindy hop legend Frankie Manning and trained with Flamenco master Antonio Vargas ("Strictly Ballroom" and "Mission Impossible II") and Latin dance champion Jaana Kunitz ("Dance With Me").
