EP41 - Brent Lyons & Don Farwell (TBT - Lyons Mane)

EP41 - Brent Lyons & Don Farwell (TBT - Lyons Mane)

On this special Track by Track episode of Solving Sounds, I flip the spot light on to myself and talk about the album that I made called Lyons Mane.  I am joined by my great friend and record producer/engineer Don Farwell to dissect each song from a song writing and producing point of view.

This record would not have existed without Don and Earwig, so in an effort to assist the studio during this difficult time, I am releasing the album on Bandcamp and donating the money to Earwig’s gofundme.  At the same time, I am also selling Solving Sounds t-shits on my Bandcamp page.  The money I receive from the shirt sales will go directly to Elijah McClain’s family gofundme.  I was very moved by his story, and want to do my part to help the cause.

If you enjoy the podcast, I hope you consider checking these out.  It would mean the world to me.

    EP38 - Brandon O'Brien (TBT - Chemical X)

    EP38 - Brandon O'Brien (TBT - Chemical X)

We are introducing a new version of the show this week called Track by Track.  Instead of covering a musician's entire career, we will spend our time doing a deep dive into one album that they have made.  We will cover everything from where it was recorded, who engineered, tracked, mixed, and mastered it, who played what instruments, how the songs were written and constructed, and what the tracks mean to the artists who made them.

My first guest on Track by Track is my old friend Brandon O'Brien.  Together, we will deconstruct his band's self titled EP, Chemical X. The band consisted of Brandon on guitar and vocals, Robert Mitchell on bass, and Mitch Hill on drums. Link in bio and available everywhere podcasts are found!

EP36 - Dr. Quinton Morris (Key to Change)

EP36 - Dr. Quinton Morris (Key to Change)

We are honored to have Dr. Quinton Morris on today’s podcast.  Dr. Morris enjoys a multifaceted career as a concert violinist, educator, entrepreneur and filmmaker. He is an associate professor of violin and chamber music at Seattle University and the founder/executive director of Key to Change, a nonprofit organization that provides violin and viola lessons to students living in South King County. He performs and presents lectures all over the world.

Clearly, Quinton is a very busy man, so I really appreciated the fact that he took the time to speak with me and open up about his work ethic and mindset.  He takes us inside his brain and shows us his process for being so dedicated, focused, and confident in setting and reaching his goals.  Dr. Morris also generously opens up about his experience as a Black man in a predominantly white field, offers important insights into the current Civil Rights movement, and makes helpful recommendations on how silent supporters can get involved and become true allies.
