A Conversation with Grace Lul: Model/Photographer Junubia Girl Talks

    • Self-Improvement

Grace Lul is a South Sudanese Model and Photographer. As the youngest in her family, Grace recalls living in Kenya and how her family would get dressed up to go to events and her father, a pastor, would be the family photographer. After taking her first photography class in high school she was captivated by the images and their ability to invoke emotions. It was then that she realized photography is what she was meant to do. Her journey towards modeling was not ordinary. Grace had little to no aspiration to become a model. How that came to be is a result of Grace's vision and ability to take risks. Grace attended college in Minneapolis where she studied Photography. While in school she had the chance to visit a friend in Chicago and she fell in love with the city. After finishing college she decided Chicago was going to be the place where she owned her skills as a photographer. Grace entered “the art scene” by reaching out to other photographers and meeting with them. Taking a leap of faith she would ask them if they could use any assistance with their photoshoots. After a while of working with the photographers they would ask her to model. Reluctant at first, Grace remained optimistic and rose to the occasion. She discovered that she was naturally inclined and went on to embrace modeling as a job. Grace has gone on to work with brands, photographers and designers. She describes Photography as being personal and opens up about the challenges in her journey. After experiencing burnout she talks about having to go back to basics to rekindle her passion. Taking photos of random buildings, herself and trees were all things that helped bring back the joy in Photography for Grace. She leaves us with some fun answers to our This or That game, talks about her upcoming skin care video and content on social media.  Listen to our interview with Grace as she walks us through her journey as a creative.
