She thinks carefully about the service she provides and how she can ensure that her clients have a beautiful, livable and personal space. She recently announced the opening of Rusticator, a brick and mortar shop in Seal Harbor, ME where she will have a design studio and retail outpost where you can buy furnishings and accessories from some of her favorite craftspeople and vendors. The gallery represents a roster of Contemporary artists [we talked about Natalia Wróbel, Holly Harrison, Keenan Derby, Clint Baclawski and Lavaughan Jenkins are a few we discussed in the episode] who work across media and subject matter. In our conversation, we talk about what it was like starting the gallery, how Abigail finds artists to work with and what goes into building out the gallery's exhibition schedule and program. Abigail gives great advice for those looking to work in the art industry, such as "stick to the basics" as you start out and get really good at what you do. Looking ahead, she plans to attend the art fair Volta in Basel, Switzerland this September. If you are an artist or art collector, you will enjoy this episode.
