    Croatian Accession to the Eurozone and Schengen Area

    In this episode of Hold The Thought, the student members of Symbiosis Chapter of EuroHorizons /Symbiosis Centre for European Studies shall be covering the topic of Croatian accession to the Eurozone and Schengen area that took place on the 1st of January 2023.



    Additionally, the student members Pranidhi, Goutam and Yugank discuss the brief history of the Eurozone and the Schengen area, the difference between the two and what this accession means to the people of Croatia. They also deliberate upon the Greece sovereign debt crisis and whether the Greek comparison with this new accession is justified. 



    The impact of the Russia-Ukraine crisis on Croatia and its accession has also been briefly touched upon, by our speakers.

    #6 - The Swiss Referendum and European Diplomatic Policy for LGBTQIA+ Rights and Gay Marriage

    I this episode of Hold the Thought, student Members of the European Horizons Symbiosis Chapter / Symbiosis Center for European Studies Student Think Tank brings you coverage of the Swiss referendum held in september of 2021 over same sex marriage. The episode covers the the entire outcome of the referendum, and the swiss position on LGBTQIA+ rights post the referendum.

    Additionally, Student Members Anuj and Raghu, talk about the history of LGBTQIA+ rights, with research assistance from Taera Singh. They talk about current status and historical positions on same sex marriage in Europe as they stand on the date of recording. The episode then deals with the question of the extent to which homophobia as it exists in laws of many of the countries, is a colonial export from european countries. We take an illustrative example of India, where there is literary and historical evidence to suggest acceptance of homosexuality, but British Colonialism changed that for the country. 

    Finally, we put light on efforts by european countries like germany and Netherlands, to put safeguarding of rights for LGBTQIA+ Individuals as a part of their foreign policy and diplomatic efforts, with illustrative examples from the german government to include the agenda as of March 2021.

    The End of Angela Merkel's Tenure and the 2021 German Federal Elections.

    On this episode of Hold the Thought, the student members of the SCES thinktank covered the brief description and the outcome of the highly contested race to the Bundestag. This episode brings you an update on some of the core electoral issues like the German pension scheme, climate change and age-related voting behaviour in Germany. In the post-Merkel era, the recent election results will also affect the India-Germany bilateral relations from the prism of trade, environment and security partnerships. The podcast on the German Federal election has been moderated by Mr Anuj Nakade. The speakers include the SCES Student Think Tank members, Mr Anirban Dutta and Ms Yashashwi Belani.
