WGN is suing the Village of Dolton in Cook County Circuit Court for refusing to release spending records and other documents related to Mayor Tiffany Henyard’s perks and pay.



The lawsuit was filed Thursday by Nexstar Media Inc., the Irving, Texas-based owner of WGN-TV.



Last November, WGN Investigates sent Dolton a public records request, seeking copies of the agency’s credit card statements, as well as records relating to Henyard’s compensation and the cost of her taxpayer-funded vehicle.

Lightfoot said Dolton Village Trustees are slated to take up a vote as early as Monday, June 3rd, to override Henyard’s veto of the village board’s initial move to hire Lightfoot to investigate.



She added that the veto has not stopped her from looking into Henyard’s conduct.



"We haven’t been quiet," Lightfoot told Fox 32 Chicago. "We’ve continued to do our work."



Lightfoot said she believes trustees have the votes to override Henyard, and that the investigation is warranted.



"It’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen," Lightfoot said. "People of Dolton deserve a government that works for them, that’s transparent, that’s fiscally responsible."



Dolton is reportedly the target of an FBI criminal investigation and has been served multiple subpoenas by federal officials.



Lightfoot’s comment came during a taping of "Paris on Politics" which aired at 9:30 p.m. Friday.



The conversation touched on multiple topics, including her reaction to the Trump verdict, her expectations for Chicago’s hosting of the Democratic National Convention, and her thoughts on a new Bears stadium.

Deep in Golden Gate Park’s hidden brush, a small sect of San Francisco’s homeless population finds a scant resource: solitude.



Here, in hard-to-reach pockets of the park, homeless people say they’re able to escape the city’s infamous streetside encampments—and the glares of passersby.



“I can’t just sleep out in public. It’s a personal thing,” said Sean, 39, who’s lived on and off in the park for six years, and declined to give a last name. “I’m conscious of what I look like, what I’m doing.”



The number of tents in the park grew over the last year from eight to 28, according to city data analyzed by the San Francisco Chronicle. That’s the steepest increase of any city neighborhood.

A special meeting in the south suburbs got heated Friday as residents take on embattled Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard.



On their first vote, the board voted down a budget. With a deadline looming, they took a second vote and approved it.

Residents have accused Henyard of misusing their tax dollars.



It was a raucous atmosphere. The meeting room at the Thornton Township board was packed, which is unusual to say the least for a Friday afternoon meeting that was rescheduled from Tuesday.

Illinois lawmakers this week passed a bill that would redesignate some "offenders" as "justice-impacted individuals" in state law, drawing criticism from Republicans.



The proposed law, House Bill 4409, would replace the term "offenders" with "justice-impacted individuals" in referring to men and women enrolled in the state's "Adult Redeploy Illinois" initiative, which aims to keep some offenders out of prison by sending them to rehabilitation programs. The bill's sponsor, state representative Kelly Cassidy (D.), said that the "offender" label "does not seem appropriate for a system in which we intend to return people to full participation in society," Chicago's WGN9 reported.



The change comes as agencies under the Biden administration have called for more "inclusive" language in referring to criminals. The Air Force Academy in 2022 barred cadets from using the word "terrorists," the Washington Free Beacon reported. Biden's Department of Homeland Security in 2021 asked officials to stop using terms such as "illegal alien" and instead opt for "undocumented individual" and "undocumented noncitizen," according to Fox News.
