    First, it is important to understand that being disappointed always means that expectations have not been fulfilled. So, how to deal with that emotion once ‘sh*t hits the fan’?

    #72 Program your mind towards success

    Are you stuck in a phase of feeling unsuccessful? Everything you are trying is not going to work? You are failing all the time?
    The problem is, “energy flows where attention goes” (Tony Robbins). That means: the more you are focussing on you being unsuccessful, the more unsuccessful moments it will create.
    To shift that: Regularly create little moments of success in your life. If this is not possible in your job at the moment, search for other possibilities, for example in your free-time related to a hobby you have.
    How to do that? Listen to two personal examples that I am sharing in this episodes that made me understanding how you can program your own mind to ‘success’.
    In a nutshell:

    Search for little challenges, something that makes you feel a little nervous
    Go out of your comfort zone: Accept this challenge! Do it!
    Consciously observe how successful you feel after mastering this challenge
    Store that feeling in your mind, shift your focus on “Yes, more of that!”

    … the person you are approaching has never worked with you and has nothing to refer to!

    I have experienced myself, that people reach out on LinkedIn asking me for reference for jobs, although I have never met them before.

    Even if the job market is tough, it is not a good practice to search for and rely on references from other people, while neglecting putting effort on your own job applications.

    Basically, a good reference from someone (if that person knows you and has worked with you) is “the cherry on the cake” – but guess, who is the “cake”?! It’s you!

    You first need to take the responsibility yourself for presenting yourself in a great way!

    Your personal values can be 3-6 out of the following examples: freedom, independence, respect, responsibility, integrity, honesty, loyalty, empathy, wealth, stability, safety, curiosity, knowledge, well-being, family, creativity, joy, success, trust, truth, compassion, modesty, openness, discipline, …

    My own top personal values are:

    Knowing your values gives you self-confidence and let’s you spread your attitude, such that it is recognizable for others! Knowing your values also gives you the courage to speak up and set boundaries once someone is not acting in alignment with your own values!     Yes, sometimes we are envious of someone, because he/she has something that we do not have. We have grown up hearing that it is bad to be envious and jealous. So, whenever we feel envy and jealousy, we push this feeling aside, or even judge ourselves for it.

    What makes you envious? Seeing other people who have


    A happy relationship? A family? Kids?
    A good job? A higher position? A higher salary?
    Material things like a bigger house, a car or jewellery?
    A different lifestyle?

    What I want you to understand: Being envious of anything of the above (or something else) is nothing bad! Instead, it is a very important indicator, what your real desires in life are!

    I am sharing with you also my personal insights what my own envy told me about becoming a mother, focusing on my career and doing public speaking.

    What is it that makes you envy? Use it to define the right targets for you! Whatever you are lacking now – remember that you just done have it YET!

    What is a trigger? What is triggering you emotionally – something that somebody says or does that makes you angry, aggressive, sad or even panicking? At your workplace, in your family, in your network of friends or even just by walking around in the city?

    What can you do when you recognize that you got triggered and you are close to overreact or have done already?

    First: be proud of yourself that you are already reflecting your own behaviour in such a way! How many people get triggered and just let out their aggressiveness without questioning it?!

    Here are the 5 steps that I explain in detail in this episode how you can handle it when you get triggered:


    Recognize your emotions and thoughts
    Ask yourself: Why are you reacting like this? Does this remind you of something?
    Zoom out! How would a neutral person assess this situation?
    Conclude: Is it a personal trigger or something you really have to set boundaries against it?
    Decide on your next action: Do you want to talk to a neutral person about it or even give the person, who has triggered you, a feedback?
