    Modern Musicology #116 – 1984 Part 1: Hard Rock & Metal

    Modern Musicology #116 – 1984 Part 1: Hard Rock & Metal

1984 was an incredible year for music, and it was a particularly strong year for hard rock and metal. We’re joined by guests Courtland Lewis and Matt Alschbach of the Rock and Metal Profs Podcast for a great discussion of what factors made 1984 such a highwater mark for the genre, and we review some of our favorite releases of the year. We spotlight albums by Van Halen, KISS, Dio, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Queenryche, Ratt, Metallica, Dokken, Scorpions, plus a whole lot more. And of course no discussion of the metal releases of 1984 would be complete without a mention of the soundtrack to the classic film This is Spinal Tap!

And because we love you and want to make your life easier, we made a playlist of (almost) all the music discussed in this episode. You can find that on Spotify here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0nPsWwDHyjm2nxDhTSsZcY?si=d2b30a97cd0240a9
