With the development of technologies and the invention of the internet, the world has turned into a small interconnected space where almost everything that society requires in order to function is available. It has its own implications and challenges but it is inevitable as well. Therefore, all we can do is prepare ourselves, gear up and adapt to the Digital Era.



 In Nepal, the concept, practice of digital payment is new but is being adapted in an exponential ratio. Owning smartphones and using the internet for day-to-day communication can be observed as normal phenomena here in Nepalese society as more than 4 million Nepali are abroad that resulted in the internet penetration of more than 72%. The common tool for communication has become social media even for people inside the country.



Most of the advertisements, branding, and marketing are done over social media as it has the largest viewers at the lowest expense in comparison to traditional advertisements. The shutdown led by Covid-19 played a role of catalyst in increasing the demand of e-commerce and digital payment both among Nepalese which excited all the major stakeholders such as Banks, Digital Payment Platforms, E-commerce houses, etc. However, there are few iron gates to be crossed in order to reach a smooth road for Digital Payment in Nepal. Here we discuss the Prospects of Digital Payment from the perspective of “Existing Policies, Practices from the side of E-commerce and other platforms, Required Reformations and the Way out”
