    SURPRISING IIHS CRASH TEST RESULTS

    SURPRISING IIHS CRASH TEST RESULTS

Girl get together ideas, house shopping, postpartum sundowners, and a much needed interview with Jessica Jermakian, VP of vehicle research at the IIHS have this episode filled to the brim.

"That totally pencils" is a phrase Kelly stands by, and sister language is the new slang that smacks. Brown cow stunning is just between Kelly and Lizz.

In today's driveway dumps, Kelly is now the widget mom advocating for moms everywhere to make their iPhone work for them. She's also making a perspective shift and finding balance by the week. She says, "Normalize giving yourself grace and going with your energy for the day." Lizz has an impressive idea for a girls get together. If you're in your making-a-new-mom-friend era listen up! Everyone brings 1-2 flower bouquets, mixes and matches them at the gather, and takes home a truly beautiful bouquet. And when your kiddos want to add to your flower collection, take a cue from Kelly and consider a tiny vase to make their picked dandelions extra cute.

In today's industry interview, Jessica Jermakian shares why the IIHS tests above and beyond the government crash testing to measure self-protection and crash avoidance testing—including pedestrian collision avoidance testing. She also shares some little known auto-facts. SUVs are no longer outlier vehicles and nearly half of all fatal crashes are single-vehicle crashes.

The IIHS full-size SUV crash test ratings are in and while the results aren't what everyone hoped they would be, they're likely to inspire change in the auto industry. Out of the three top selling SUVs—Wagoneer, Tahoe, and Expedition—the Wagoneer was the only vehicle that got credit for the IIHS top safety pick award. The Armada and Sequoia remain on the IIHS radar for future tests.

Kelly is bringing a delicious copycat Chick-Fil-A sandwich to today's ditch the drive-through. All you need is the Chick-Fil-A sauce and Aldi's chicken patties, hamburger buns, and pickles. Air fry your chicken breasts and pop the buns in for the last minute.

THE COLLAB NO ONE ASKED FOR

THE COLLAB NO ONE ASKED FOR

Kelly and Lizz are here to make mom life a little easier today. From easier-to-pack bags to delicious low-cook summer meal ideas they've got you covered.

The gals have a few Instagram follows sure to brighten your feed on today's driveway dumps. @smaller_sam.pcos delivers better options for the drive through, @busytoddler offers relatable mom content for moms of young kids, and @presleypierce_ is doing content differently from his Kansas boutique. The moral of the media? Don't force feed your Instagram content — do something different!

Lizz's last three transactions kick off with the book "I Love You, Daddy." Kelly chimes in with some classic children's book favorites, The Giving Tree and The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and asks for girl book recs! Lizz is also stocking up on Puffworks baby peanut butter puffs and excited to try out her My Soft Birkenstock dupes. Kelly snagged a deal on Land's End overnight bags, is getting the family all on the same page with a clear acrylic weekly calendar, and is keeping her kiddo comfy in Bamboo jammies from Caden Lane.

A highly requested taste drive features the collab absolutely no one asked for — Oreo and Sour Patch Kids. These Oreos are going straight in the trash and leave Kelly and Lizz wishing for an Oreo Nutella collab!

A listener with a family of five has been driving a Honda Accord for 10 years and is looking for their next vehicle. Kelly recommends checking out a Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey. Another listener who drives a 2021 Explorer is considering a Kia Carnival lease, but the deal sounds too good to be true. Lease specials are the bane of Kelly's existence. She recommends checking out the fine print — the tax, title, and license fees and the required down payment.

Thursday's industry news will be extra special. Jessica from the IAHS returns to share hot updates and spill the tea. You won't want to miss it!

Lizz is loving her new egg-roll in a bowl recipe and happy to ditch the drive-through for it. Just mix cooked ground pork, soy sauce, coleslaw salad mix, fresh or ground ginger, fresh or jarred garlic in your bowl and top with Everything But the Bagel seasoning, green onions, and Sriracha mayo. Let your imagination run wild with a crowd-pleasing lemon orzo salad at your next BBQ. Cook your orzo and add lemon juice, zest, feta, tomato, cucumber, pepper, spinach, basil, and whatever else you have on hand to spruce up your salad.

→ Who's coming, who's excited? The Car Mom Auto Show is just around the corner! Get ready for a road trip and knock out all of your car browsing in one weekend with fun for the whole family.

George brings the Gen Alpha word of the day, "question," as in crush. And to him, true love is so gross Kelly and Lizz compare it to cooties in the nineties.

Kelly's clearing up some questions about what went down when she met Tyler. She says it was "I had a barbecue stain on my white t-shirt, she was killing me in that miniskirt" vibes. After a failed turkey hunting invite, she didn't give up though and eventually bestowed him with her precious cupid's arrow.

Kelly has discovered widgets and is loving them as her new base model luxury. She's tracking her phone pickups, getting more intentional about task management, and building scroll time into the day.

In industry news James Bell, head of corporate communications at Kia, has the inside scoop on what's next for Kia. He shares key hires Kia made that transformed their image and positioning in the marketplace, shifting the company from a used car alternative to a lineup of vehicles that look great, drive great, are safer, and instill confidence in their drivers. Kelly and Lizz ask what goes into naming a car and where the ham-stars went. James clears up the Kia theft issue, how the cars were really stolen, and what Kia has done to resolve the issue.

James is not going to be ditching the drive-through with the Carpool, but he does have a very important California drive-through recommendation. The double double combo with twice cooked fries at In-and-Out Burger is his go-to.

    THE WORD "VINTAGE" HURTS

    THE WORD "VINTAGE" HURTS

Kelly and Lizz are vintage now and hitting their Susie Homemaker era, being bodybuilders isn't in the cards—it's really just the chicken of it all, and Kelly shares her boomer iPhone hardships on today's episode.

→ The Car Mom Auto Show is just around the corner! Get ready for a road trip and knock out all of your car browsing in one weekend with fun for the whole family.

In driveway dumps, Kelly shares about her family travel success and how she's ready for an 8 year old in the family. New tie dye traditions have taken shape and the kids had a blast. James had the best day of his life with mom after his surgery last week while Kelly managed a febrile seizure at home with one of her kiddos (everyone is fine). After this segment, coping with cookies and stocking your freezer might just get added to your chill summer plans.

A listener's 2019 Tiguan might be totaled, should she take a different approach at the dealership? Kelly and Lizz agree—an easy sale isn't one a salesman should take advantage of. When you really need a car, leverage your urgency! How do you know when you've outgrown a friendship? The writing might be on the wall with this one. Kelly and Lizz say you don't have to make it a confrontation when someone shows they're really out of touch with where you're at in life.

In industry news Jeep is releasing their first EV, the Wagoneer S—which looks nothing like a Wagoneer. Kelly and Lizz talk about the EV tax credit smoke and mirrors. Both Ford CEO, Jim Farley and GM CEO, Mary Barra took the stage separately at a recent conference to share their perspective on the long-term powertrain strategy. And GM plans to bring back plugin hybrid vehicles to its lineup by 2027.

Lizz brings today's ditch the drive-through, shredded taco beef roast, from The Car Mom Crew Facebook group. You'll need a roast, taco seasoning, street taco tortillas, cheese, and guac to make this recipe. Go to the Facebook group, type roast in the search bar, and you'll see the video with full instructions. Lizz made her roast in the Crock Pot and it was a huge hit!

    A TRUCK DAD Q&A

    A TRUCK DAD Q&A

Grab your Twizzlers, the Stumpe family is going to the Ozarks! The Truck Dad is on the Carpool podcast—finally. And while your 20 bucks might not deliver the same goods they always did, this episode certainly will.

Tyler has surrendered to his fate and is now one of those 'exercise people' with insufferable soreness. Kelly is certain a good round of shiplap would turn that two-pack into a six.

The Carpool has questions, and Tyler's got answers. What were the best and worst of the new home renovations? How did Tyler become so good at fixing things? Who edits his Instagram reels? The Truck Dad also shares his take on meeting, dating, and marrying Kelly—she says she loves this country chameleon boy and Tyler says she just wouldn't give up. Tyler's first-car tales of farm trucks and Ford Tauruses, a minnow-entertainment hack, and Kelly and Tyler's polar opposite airport personalities round out this riveting segment.

A listener writes in for advice on getting a truck as a family car. Kelly's here to change the stigma about mom cars being only three row SUVs.

Less butter, no chemicals to give you the ick, absolutely gorgeous—and easier clean up? Say no more. When you’re ditching the drive-through, reach for Caraway Homes, non-toxic kitchenware. Their pans are not only healthy, beautiful, and aesthetically pleasing, they also come with the perfect organization system. Over 65,000 people have given Caraway kitchenware five stars. Now it's time to try it for yourself.

In industry news cars, trucks, and SUVs in the US keep getting older, hitting a record average of 12.6 years. New vehicles have an average selling price of just over $45K. Rivian lost $38,000 per vehicle delivered in the first quarter. And a new California bill could require new cars to beep at speeding drivers.

Tyler recounts his favorite meals that Kelly makes—namely her beef stew and pulled pork and a ditch the drive-through plus a love-thy neighbor comes from loyal listener Jordan. To make these simple and family-friendly ham and cheese croissant melts you'll need a twelve pack of croissant rolls, rosemary ham, Gruyere cheese, and dijon mustard. Bake at home or deliver ready to go in your friend's oven just before meal time. Serve with a bagged salad on the side.
