Jay shares his expertise on the critical role of movement skills and tissue capacity in enhancing athletic performance and explains how athletes can develop the necessary skills and body preparation to achieve their goals and prevent injuries.
We discuss the pivotal importance of postural control and endurance for athletes involved in prolonged activities like cycling, running and swimming. Jay illustrates how maintaining consistent body positioning can maximize efficiency and minimize fatigue. We explore the limitations of traditional exercises and advocate for dynamic movements that bolster both strength and skill. Practical tips and exercises, such as using rocker boards and resistance bands, are shared to help athletes improve their form and stability.
We focus on optimizing movement skills for efficiency, addressing common myths about muscle functionality and highlighting the importance of proper mechanics like triple extension. Jay underscores the need to address underlying movement issues rather than merely increasing training volume or intensity. Additionally, we explore the complexities of tissue adaptation and the critical role of plyometrics in building bone and ten

Tim chats to Dr Kate Baldwin of Valere Endurance about the psychological and physical processes of healing from an injury. We explore the complexities of injury recovery emphasizing the difficulty in managing expectations during the healing process. We discuss the misconception that pain and function improve simultaneously and linearly, and how this can lead to disappointment when progress doesn't match expectations. We highlight that while initial recovery may bring rapid improvement, progress often slows down, and setbacks can occur, which is a normal part of the healing journey.
We stress the importance of a multidisciplinary approach when dealing with fractures and other common injuries in endurance athletes, involving sports doctors, physiotherapists, coaches and nutritionists. Additionally, we consider the potential pitfalls of rushing back into activity and the consequences of reintroducing running too soon.
We review the racing from the WTCS race at Cagliari and discuss how that now affects the lineup for Paris 2024.
