    Team Institute made it to the end of the 2020 Indiana legislative session!!! Jessica Fraser wraps up this session by explaining the terrible passing of Senate Bill 148. She also talks about the next steps on this bill and how you can help by calling Governor Holcomb and asking him to veto this bill. Jessica and Erin revise the Institutes' 2020 public policy agenda and talk about how they will be preparing for the 2021 session. Erin talks about the different ideas proposed at the national level to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and how the lack of paid sick days can affect lower-income workers.

    Team Institute is getting ready to fight with all we have. This week Jessica Fraser talks about the tenant-landlord language that has been moving around the different bills that are eligible to carry out this language. Jessica explains how this can be detrimental to renters across the state. Erin Macey gives us a run down through the fun amendments that were proposed on the House floor last week. These amendments aimed to create a more inclusive driving workforce by providing 12 days of parental paid leave, creating a state-level child care tax credit, and more. Amy and Pamela talk about "Death-Watch" and how intense conferences committees can get. Also, we get an update from Lindsay Shipps on SB 1279, which deals with Indy Go and mass transit.

    This week in Inside the Statehouse, Team Institute introduces an end of session segment "dead bills" we mourn the death of some good consumer protection bills. Our Senior Policy Analyst, Erin Macey, tells you more about the next steps on pregnancy accommodation in Indiana and her advocacy efforts in D.C with more State advocates and the ACLU of Indiana. Additionally, our Director, Jessica Fraser, talks about Senate Bill 340, which was amended during committee as a direct response to the City of Indianapolis's efforts to address the tenant-landlord relations. She explains the conference committee and how vigilance is of at most important during this time of the session. Lindsay Haake, Citizens Action Coalitions Advocate, shines the light on a controversial amendment that directly affects Indianapolis Bus Rapid Transport and the Indy Go. We also did a special shout out to our heroes and partners for the work they do.

    This week in Inside the Statehouse our Director, Jessica Fraser, explains House Bill 1191 which deals with land and contracts. Jessica also talks about Senate Bill 223 which would require high school students to file the FASFA allowing for more lower-income kids to receive the benefits of pell grants and scholarships. She also talks about the National Association of Social Workers' Day at the Statehouse. Jessica introduces our new grassroots fellow Tia. 

    Our Senior Policy Analysts, Erin Macey, talks about the missed opportunity to enact pregnancy accommodations legislation at the State level. However, the coalition has transformed lemons into lemonade by taking the support for pregnancy accommodation to the Federal level. Erin also gives us an update on Senate Bill 395 which we nicknamed 36% on all the wrong places. Also, we share some of the coping mechanisms that we are employing to make it through this 2020 session.
