    Episode 176: "They had a ball-room"

    Episode 176: "They had a ball-room"

Happy Spooky Wednesday, folks! We've got a classic haunting and a major coincidence on the docket this week. I know what you're thinking? A major coincidence? How is that Spooky-Wednesday-worthy? Trust us... you'll want to hear this. But first, Kala talks about the George Stickney House in Woodstock, Illinois. This building is now a police headquarters, but it was once the home of devout spiritualists who commissioned the building to be built with zero sharp corners to better communicate with the dead. After decades of seances, it seems some of those spirits may have stuck around, and are now spending their time pestering police officers. Now, about that coincidence... What if we told you that there were two murders so similar you might think there was a copy cat killer? Now what if we told you they were over 100 years apart? And what if we told you the details were so similar not even a copy cat could pull it off? This is a wild ride, folks. You don’t want to miss it.

    Episode 175: "Play Bowl!"

    Episode 175: "Play Bowl!"

Happy Spooky Wednesday! This week we're finishing up our U.S. takeover. Kala realized that there we hadn't covered any locations in two different states, and she needed to rectify this issue immediately. So she covered Wood Island Light in Maine and McRaven House in Mississippi. The Wood Island Light seems like your standard haunted lighthouse, until you hear about the tragedy that took place on the property. And the McRaven House has traded hands so many times with so many different types of people, it's like a variety pack of ghosts. And Brittany keeps it Midwesty by talking about Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley in Green Bay, WI. This is the king of all bowling alleys! So much so that bowling enthusiasts continue to hang out there even in the afterlife. The good news is that as a ghost, you probably don't have to pay to rent shoes anymore.

Episode 174: “Freedom fighters and food folk”

Episode 174: “Freedom fighters and food folk”

Happy Spooky Wednesday, folks! It's opposite day at Left of Skeptic. First up, Kala talks about Jinny Bingham's ghost in Camden Town, London. Also known as Mother Damnable and Mother Redcap, Jinny was a 1600s woman who was known in her small village for witchcraft and murder! But was she really a witch, or just a woman with a whole lot of bad luck. Either way, it seems her misfortune carries into the present day, haunting the location where her cottage once stood. And Brittany gets midwesty by talking about two different locations in Battle Creek, Michigan. A haunted apartment complex called Colombia Court is dealing with more than your average pests. Residents can expect to deal with doors opening on their own, lights turning on and off, whispers and disembodied voices, footsteps, and flying cookware! And in a Battle Creek Cemetery, there is a statue that is definitely not the Virgin Mary, and locals claim that it cries. We finish the whole episode off with some Reddit stories from Wisconsinites that claim they've had their own paranormal encounters.

Editor's Note: Sadly, it looks like the Wonder Bar in Milwaukee closed last year. It's now theBiersal Tavern. Let us know if it's still haunted!

But #FunFact it looks like the Wonder Bar in Madison might be haunted too >> https://archive.jsonline.com/features/travel/madisons-wonder-bar-steakhouse-has-mob-history-ghosts-b99380667z1-281121762.html

Episode 173: "These ghosts are ruining their social lives"

Episode 173: "These ghosts are ruining their social lives"

Happy Spooky Wednesday, one and all! Summer has started and we've got some stories to put you in the mood for the warmer weather. First up, Kala talks about haunted theme park attractions, and honestly, some of these stories are a total bummer. But the hauntings that follow these tragedies will be giving you "spooky carnival" vibes for sure. From a creepy carousel all the way to a haunted house that caused a park to become actually haunted, we've got it covered. And Brittany talks about Elke Sommer’s ghost story. Elke and her husband Joe Hyams were Hollywood elite, and were excited to move into their new Beverly Hills home back in the 1960s. Well...they were excited...until they realized they weren't alone in the house. For four years they were plagued by strange noises, shadow figures, and ghosts that seemed determined to ruin their social lives. And it turns out it wasn't just them! Previous owners had experiences too. If a ghost is bad enough to make you want to deal with buying and selling a house that quickly, it's got to be pretty bad, right?

Episode 172: “It was built for the living. Duh.”

Episode 172: “It was built for the living. Duh.”

Happy Spooky Wednesday, folks! This week Kala keeps it Midwest by talking about Bowers Harbor Inn on the Old Mission Peninsula in Michigan. This building is home to the ghost of a woman “known well” in local legends. And by “known well,” we mean incorrectly described. But just because the local legend is wrong doesn’t mean the haunting isn’t real. And Brittany tells us all about The Riddle House, which is now part of Yesteryear Village in Palm Beach, Florida. This former funeral home has a complicated and tragic history that has resulted in a pretty violent haunting. Let’s just say you better keep your tools, ladders, and windows tucked away if you want them to stay in good condition. And we finish off the episode with some #FunFacts about Glensheen Mansion provided by the lovely listener, Gina!

    Editor's Notes:
Those author recommendations were Freida McFadden and the other one I couldn't remember... Lisa Unger.
Also, watch Bridgerton. If our chat after the recording indicates anything, we'll probably mention it more. You might as well know what's going on.
    Okay, byyeeeeeee!

Episode 171: "Flesh or... lima beans?"

Episode 171: "Flesh or... lima beans?"

Happy Spooky Wednesday, dear listeners! We've got aliens and cryptids for you this week! First up, Kala talks about the Kelly-Hopkinsville Encounter, famous for being the start of the "little green men" description of aliens. In the 1950s, a farm house in Kentucky was visited by strange little creatures from outer space, and that family's lives were never the same again. But was it really aliens? Or was it a meteor... and some owls. Because apparently that makes more sense to some people. And Brittany talks about the Floridian cryptid known as The Skunk Ape. This smelly, strong, aggressive, cannibalistic creature as been lurking in Florida's nature for centuries. Is it a paranormal creature? An escaped zoo animal? An ancient creature that humans just never catalogued? We think the most important question is: Why does it like lima beans?
