    A notable cancellation:
    Virgin Atlantic (UK) dropped its 2001 order for six A380s. The carrier plans to operate a total of 12 A350-1000s instead.
    In related news:
    AIRBUS plans in 2020 to drop annual production of A380s to six and A400Ms to eight, affecting 3,700 workers; it is expected to deliver 12 A380s/15 A400Ms in '18 and 12 A380s/11 A400Ms in '19.
    In labor news:
    Avianca (Colombia) completed hearings over pilot sanctions, laying off 107 pilots in total.
    Baggage handlers and maintenance workers at American Airlines were granted certification, enabling the claim to proceed as a class action lawsuit, in a case accusing the company of programming its time clocks to round down and reduce the amount of time employees are credited with working. The company’s timekeeping system credits workers for the period of time they are scheduled to work, but the system cuts off pay for those who put in a longer shift than scheduled, according to the suit. The suit claims violations of New Jersey’s Wage and Hour Law on behalf of American employees at Newark Liberty International Airport.
    In financial news:
    Kroll Bond Rating Agency (KBRA) assigns preliminary ratings to three classes of notes (the “Notes”) issued by Sapphire Aviation Finance I Limited. Proceeds from the sale of the Notes will be used to acquire 41 aircraft that are initially leased to 30 lessees located in 19 countries with an initial total value of approximately $962.4 million. This transaction represents the second serviced securitization for Avolon Aerospace Leasing Limited (“AALL” or the “Company”) who is an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Avolon Holdings Limited. AALL will act as servicer for the transaction. The Company was founded in May 2010 as an aircraft leasing company focused on acquiring, managing and trading commercial aircraft on lease to passenger airlines worldwide. As of December 31, 2017, the Company has an owned and committed fleet valuation of $46.5 billion with 153 customers in 64 countries and is the 3rd largest aircraft lessor globally.
    Also in financial news, we had a few earnings releases:
    EMBRAER had $246.8m net income on $5.84b revenues in 2017 vs $166.1m on $6.22b in 2016, and plans to deliver 85-95 commercial and 105-125 executive jets in 2018 vs 101/109 in 2017.
    Azul (Brazil) reports For 2017, net income rose 518% to $164.1 million, with revenues up 16.8% to $2.4 billion. The carrier ended the year with total cash position of $1.1 billion, and fleet of 122 aircraft.
    Rolls-Royce (UK) reports 2017 underlying revenue up 6% to $18.5 billion, with profit before tax up 25% to $1.2 billion.
    Fly Leasing (Ireland) reports For 2017, net income was $2.6 million on revenues of $353.2 million. and total cash was $456.8 million. FLY had 85 aircraft in its portfolio
    Other developments in aviation:
    CFM INTL has added LEAP-1A/LEAP-1B capability to its training center in Hyderabad.
    Cargolux (Luxembourg) and Nippon Cargo Airlines (Japan) are to partner on a new freighter service from Luxembourg to Narita on 27 March 2018, to be flown by B747-400F and B747-8Fs.
    Finally:
    IATA announced global passenger traffic results for January 2018 showing RPKs up 4.6% yoy, with ASKs up 5.3%, and LF down 0.5 points to 79.6%.

    Looking at the headlines today, The creditors of Air Berlin decided to go ahead with a lawsuit against Etihad Airways, which used to be the biggest shareholder of the now insolvent airline. Air Berlin’s administrator said he is engaged in assessing the claims that could potentially exceed €1 billion in damages.

    In manufacture news, Rolls-Royce has recognised a charge of £227 million ($315 million) in its full-year results relating to costs associated with addressing in-service technical issues on Boeing 787 and Airbus A380 engines. Airbus announced plan in 2020 to drop annual production of A380s to six and A400Ms to eight.

    In Airline news, Hawaiian Airlines announced the decision to buy ten Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners for a total of $2.82 billion, with an option for ten more. The Honolulu-based airline also announced cancelling its previous order of six Airbus A330-800neos.

    In Deliveries, Azul took delivery of one ATR72-600 leased from Nordic Aviation Capital. Delta Air Lines took delivery of one new A350-900. Carrier also took delivery of one new A321-200. Jet2 took delivery of one new B737-800.

    In fleet and deliveries, Delta Air Lines took delivery of one A321-200 and one A350-900. SunExpress Germany took delivery of one 737-800. Fiji Link took delivery of one DHC-6 - 400 Twin Otter
    Atlas Air has acquired two Boeing 777 Freighters from LATAM Airlines. Air Arabia plans to order 100 single-aisle aircraft and has contacted Boeing and Airbus. Somon Air plans to purchase four Embraer E190-E2 aircraft.

    In Airlines and Financials, Cathay Pacific and Air Astana announced a codeshare agreement which will allow Cathay Pacific to have a better connectivity to Kazakhstan and Air Astana to have a better connectivity to Asia and Australia. Bombardier has made an agreement to sell about 500 Million US Dollar of its equity to a syndicate of underwriters in Canada. Uzbekistan Airways has decided to cease operating their IL-114-100 aircraft and replace them with Airbus A320s.

    In February 2018 traffic results, Volaris reported an increased passenger growth of 12% and increased total demand by 14.2% compared to february last year. Norwegian reported an increased passenger growth of 11.4% as compared to february last year
    Icelandair reported a decrease in number of passengers by 5% on international flights and 3 % on domestic flights as compared to February last year.

    And finally, In Regulatory news, The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has put a ban on eight carriers which is valid from February 28th, 2018 until May 31st, 2018.

    Hello and thank you for tuning in to mba airtracker, my name is Benjamin Chiam and I'll be providing you with your aviation updates today. Starting with Airline news, after posting losses in 2017, Thai Airways is optimistic about turning things around in 2018 as the ICAO recently upgraded Thailand’s safety rating. Thai Airways is still waiting for the FAA to follow ICAOs verdict and raise the country's safety ratings, believing that the change in perception will help garner more overseas customers and increase the airlines revenue. Avianca posted a $245 million net profit in 2017 after adjusting for disruptions caused by a pilot strike in the fourth quarter of 2017. Before the adjustment, Avianca reported 82 million dollars in net profit, up 85% from 2016. This represents the strongest performance the airline has seen since its merger with TACA. Airbnb's CEO Brian Chesky revealed that the company is thinking about launching a new airline to get into the end-to-end trip business. Metro Aviation ordered 25 H145e helicopters that will be produced in Airbus's plant in Mississippi. The order is vital for airbus as it will bridge the production line until the delivery and further orders of the militarized UH-72a for the US Army. Production of the type has been delayed by a three year legal battle between Leonardo Helicopters and Airbus that was finally resolved in favor of airbus early this year. Airbus has rolled out the first A350-900 ULR slated to enter service with Singapore Airlines. The aircraft will be used to restart direct flights between Singapore and North America, which used to be served by the A340-500s. Singapore Airlines is currently the only customer for the A350 ULR but Airbus is reported to be in talks with Qantas who has shown interest in the aircraft. Wow air closed a sale leaseback for an A321 with Sky aviation leasing marking the 36th aircraft placed for Sky. IAG engines has acquired a 747-400 , the CF6 powered aircraft was in storage at the time of acquisition but used to fly with KLM. ASL aviation has taken delivery of a 737-400F from vallair making it the largest European 737-400F operator. And Finally, Avmax took delivery of the last three Bombardier Q100s from an order of 27.

    In leasing news today, China Huarong Financial Leasing has placed an order for 30 C919s and 20 ARJ21s. Norwegian has taken delivery of its final Boeing 737-800, with a total count of 118 737-800s within its fleet. Norwegian has outstanding orders for 12 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft deliveries in 2018.

    In mergers and acquisitions, Laudamotion has registered MSN 4329, the first A320 to be transferred from NIKI after the former airline's takeover. According to Reuters, Boeing will have a dominant (51%) share in the anticipated Boeing Embraer Joint Venture. American Airlines and Quantas have re-filed for anti-trust immunity with the US Department of Transportation to forma joint venture for North American- Oceanian routes. Seamless Air Alliance, a joint venture between Airbus, Delta, OneWeb, Sprint, and Airtel, has launched with the intention of providing high speed ground to air electronic connectivity.

    In regulatory news, the Georgia State Senate, led by Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, threatened to block a bill provided additional tax breaks to Delta Airlines, following the Airline's removal of a discount program for National Rifle Association members. As part the requirements for the six-and-a-half billion dollar IMF facility offered in 3013, the Pakistani government has begin the privatization process for Pakistan International Airlines. The Pakistani Cabinet has approved a plant to sell a 49% stake in the company.

    In aviation industry forecasts, Aerospace Industries Association has issued a report forecasting a 150 billion dollar market for Large Commercial Unmanned Aircraft, with introduction expected over the next twenty years. IATA has announced a goal of 1 billion passengers flying on aircraft with engines powered by a combination of jet fuel and Sustainable Aviation Fuel by 2025.

    Finally, Dubai International will be implementing a new security measure- an android with facial recognition, X-ray scanning, and thermal vision. The android will be connected to the Interpol database, and will also serve the purpose of greeting the public in the arrivals area.
