The weekly cardiovascular update from ACC.org Editor-in-Chief Kim Eagle, MD, MACC, covering the hottest cardiovascular topics, from new clinical guidelines to practice-changing research and innovative quality initiatives and tools.

In-office and At-Home Blood Pressure Measurement, Artificial Intelligence and Cardiovascular Care, Inflammatory Risk

In-office and At-Home Blood Pressure Measurement, Artificial Intelligence and Cardiovascular Care, Inflammatory Risk

In this week’s View, Dr. Eagle looks at office measurement vs. ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and its associations with mortality in patients with or without diabetes. Dr. Eagle then reviews two related articles: a report in JACC on Artificial Intelligence and cardiovascular care, and a recent article from The Lancet on inflammatory risk and cardiovascular events in patients without obstructive coronary artery disease in which AI played an important role.

Severe Aortic Stenosis, Titration and Acute Heart Failure, Pacemakers After TAVR

In this week’s View, Dr. Eagle looks at secular trends of incidence and outcomes in severe aortic stenosis. He then examines titration of medications after acute heart failure. Finally, Dr. Eagle shares some thoughts on an analysis from the PARTNER2-S3 registry on the predictors and five-year clinical outcomes of pacemakers after TAVR.

Excess Apolipoprotein-B and Cardiovascular Risk, Treating Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, SGLT2i and CV Outcomes

In this week’s View, Dr. Eagle looks at excess apolipoprotein-B and cardiovascular risk, then examines a recent meta-analysis on treating pulmonary arterial hypertension. Finally, Dr. Eagle shares some thoughts on a SMART-C collaborative meta-analysis of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors and major adverse cardiovascular outcomes.

Anticoagulation in Post-Operative AFib, Non-ST-Elevation Acute Coronary Syndromes, Arrhythmia-Induced Cardiomyopathy

In this week’s View, Dr. Eagle looks at anticoagulation for post-operative atrial fibrillation after isolated coronary artery bypass grafting. He then examines a meta-analysis of invasive vs. conservative management of non-ST-elevation acute coronary syndromes with previous coronary artery bypass grafting. Finally, Dr. Eagle shares some thoughts on JACC’s recent State of the Art Review of arrhythmia-induced cardiomyopathy.

Aortic Valve Calcification and Aortic Stenosis, Microvascular Resistance Reserve After PCI, Microvascular Injury Patterns

In this week’s View, Dr. Eagle looks at the diagnostic value of aortic valve calcification levels in the assessment of low-gradient aortic stenosis.

He then examines the prognostic value of microvascular resistance reserve after percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with myocardial infarction.

Finally, Dr. Eagle shares some thoughts on clinical outcomes associated with various microvascular injury patterns identified by cardiac MRI after STEMI.

Transcatheter-Based Intervention and Tetralogy of Fallot, Small Left Ventricle and Atrial Fibrillation (Afib), Aspirin Free Treatment Post-PCI

In this week’s View, Dr. Eagle looks at transcatheter-based intervention for tetraology of Fallot. He then examines how a small left ventricle in patients with atrial fibrillation is associated with increased cardiovascular risk. Finally, Dr. Eagle shares some thoughts on an aspirin-free strategy for immediate treatment following complex percutaneous coronary intervention.
