In this episode, we listen to the world of computer science wisdom from the black woman tech business owner, Bukola Somide who invents the 1st Computer Science Education doll. She shares the inside secrets of being in the computer science world as a black woman, mother and business owner. Bukola Somide is a Nigerian woman who has invented “Somi,” the very first Computer Science Interactive Doll. The goal of this 14-inch doll is to not only be fun to play with but educational as well. As Somide states, “My passion is to bring computer science awareness to underserved communities while deterring cyberbullying. I’m so excited for everyone to experience Somi, The Computer Science doll!” The Somi Computer Science Interactive Doll is made [for] people of all ages beginning from the age of three. Critics are already praising the doll as a “real educational, entertaining, and inspirational tool for young learners and keepsake to celebrate milestones for young adults” according to BlackNews.com. Somide has always been involved in technology. Her book, Somi, The Computer Scientist: Princess Can Code, was first published by Innovant Technologies L.L.C. Not to mention, she also published a computer science activity book for children and recently created a coding workshop for children that will soon become an affordable online mini-workshop.

During the COVID-19 Pandemic, Nic King like others were forced to stay home and that’s when he really felt the push to take the leap of faith and leave his corporate job after 12 years. Fast Forward 8 months later Nic has launched the first black owned cereal company and has dedicated the first box to uplifting his culture in a time where representation matters. Nic has made it clear he’s not interested in watering down the message for any monetary gain as he would simple put it “This one is for the culture”

In this episode, we speak with Nic King the Connecticut Single Father and the first Black-owned cereal company the creator of Proud Puffs - a chocolate-flavored cereal formed in the shape of a fist. He will share his motivation and how he had this divine inspiration.
