The Ideal Family by Katherine Mansfield
This story is a snapshot into the life of a family everyone feels is ideal ... except for the aging patriarch, who is beginning to feel irrelevant. I can easily see Rod Serling turning this into an episode of The Twilight Zone, even though he never did. The surreal aspects at the end of the story are especially fascinating.

An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge by Ambrose Bierce
The first time I ever "read" this story, I watching an episode of the old Twilight Zone with Rod Serling--it's one of my favorite shows ever. I loved the beauty and poignancy of the tale, and even more so in text form. I hope you enjoy it, as well.
