“How your ATTITUDE shapes your world‪”‬ Faith Family Fitness with Andy and Tiffany Dooley

    • Parenting

Happy Friday!
Attitude is important in our house. We are constantly correcting our kids for their attitude. From our youngest who seems to be the most bossy baby I’ve ever met to our oldest who we recently had to create a hand signal to make her aware of her attitude when it needs adjustment, to say that attitude is important to us is an understatement. We recognize that a person's attitude not only affects their performance but also impacts all those around them. We want to demonstrate the importance of having a good attitude by trying to be considerate of the other person's feelings and by apologizing when our attitude has been wrong causing us to lash out and be rude. We want our kids to take responsibility for both their actions and attitude.

One thing to consider is that attitude is often subjective and it is hard to detect in yourself. With our kids, we try to help them see what behaviors they are displaying when they have an attitude so that they can make adjustments (tone, facial expressions, rude comments). We also try to teach them that everyone has a perspective and sometimes you don’t mean to come across a certain way but it’s important to be sensitive to how others are perceiving you and make adjustments if how you’re being received is not how you mean to be.
