My name is Dan Clouser. I am a podcast host, author and a speaker. I founded and ran a nonprofit youth sports organization for 30 years called the Berkshire Baseball & Softball Club, which later became the BIG Vision Foundation. We ran teams, tournaments and a 130 acre sports complex. I loved every second of what I did. I loved working with kids and teaching them leadership skills and life lessons through sports and community service. I thought that I would have died doing what I loved.

Then in 2019, I felt a calling from God for my wife, Sandy, and I.

We decided to leave our comfort zone and start a new journey. A literal journey, selling most of our material things and setting out across this beautiful country in an RV with our golden retriever, Youkilis. Sounds crazy, but it was also destined to happen. You see I was raised by a hippy named Loretta Magary, she was a free spirit who quit her job and embarked on her own journey in the mid-1980’s. Her journey started in a 1967 Plymouth Valiant with the back seat removed to make a bed and a .38 Special for protection. She later evolved into a 1978 Toyota camper. After she passed away in 2005, we were able to experience a small part of her journey by going through her old photos and letters. The people that she met along the way were amazing.

I’ll be conducting speaking engagements and writing more books on our travels. More importantly, this is our chance to continue my mother’s legacy of giving back through volunteering.

We will tell the stories of the people that we meet along the way through this podcast, blogging, and social media.

This is truly “The Journey of My Mother’s Son” and as Michael Franti says in the opening verse of his song, “Gloria,” “When many little people in many little places, Do many little things, then the whole world changes.” It will be our job to share and tell the stories of those “Many Little People” through this podcast and my writing. Some of the people that we interview may be famous, most will not be, but they’ll all have a story to tell about the difference they’re making. Some stories will still have a sports theme, others spiritual, some will be about music, others about food, some will talk about travel, but all will be about the many little people, in the many little places who are doing the many little things to make the whole world change. We pray that you enjoy these stories and are inspired to do your own little things to make this world a better place for all of us.

Brittany & Cody Holifield (Halls Top Hangout) – A New Chapter

In this episode of the Journey of My Mother’s Son podcast, I sit down and talk with Brittany and Cody Holifield.
I had Cody and Brittany on the show after we first met at A Year to Volunteer project at Sam Houston Jones State Park back in March of 2022.  At that time, they were a full-time RV family of four traveling throughout the United States under the name Hitch to Hitch.
A lot has changed for them over the past couple of years, and they are about to start a new chapter.
Hitch to Hitch is changing to Halls Top Hangout.  What is Halls Top Hangout, you ask?  It’s a brand new off-grid adventure camp in the beautiful East Tennessee Mountain town of Hartford.
Hartford, Tennessee is located about an hour from Knoxville, Ashville, and Gatlinburg, on the edge of the Cherokee National Forest.
Cody and Brittany want to create a space where people can come to, unplug, and reconnect with nature.
To find out more about what’s going on at the new Halls Top Hangout Adventure Camp, check out their website at https://www.hallstophangout.com/.

Billy Lahr – Live More Intentionally

Billy Lahr – Live More Intentionally

In this episode of “The Journey of My Mother’s Son” podcast, I sit down to talk with Billy Lahr.
As I always say, I love when I have the opportunity to connect with fellow nomads.  However, although, Billy and I share that same nomadic wanderlust, we’re going about it in two completely different ways.  Sandy and I in an RV in the United States, Canada, and Mexico while Billy is literally traveling the globe.
In 2021, Billy was one of 47 million Americans who quit their jobs due to burnout and priority re-evaluation.  Following the challenges our nation’s educators faced during the pandemic, he no longer had the passion needed to work with high school students.  For the next two years, he traveled all over the world in search of meaningful experiences to reignite his passion for helping others.  Throughout his journey, he met many incredible people along the way, and he shared with them how his mindfulness practice not only changed his life but most likely saved it as well.  When he opened up about his own mental health struggles, he found that people all over the world were also re-evaluating their priorities in life but just needed guidance to do so more intentionally and mindfully.

Tracy Tanguay – Time to Rethink Youth Sports

Tracy Tanguay – Time to Rethink Youth Sports

In this episode of the Journey of My Mother’s Son podcast, I sit down and talk with Tracy Tanguay.
Tracy is a mobility expert also known as “MobilityChick” and has worked with players and coaches from 27 of the 30 MLB organizations, from A-ball to All-Star as well as high school and college teams.
Tracy is also passionate about changing the current culture that has developed throughout youth sports.  This is something that really resonates with me because I saw firsthand how the approach to youth sports has changed over the 30 years that I had been involved.  Sadly, that culture shift has not been for the better.  We have shifted from a team mentality to an individual focus.  Sport specialization at a young age is becoming more and more prevalent, which is leading to more injuries at younger ages.  The increase in injuries early the current MLB season could arguably be attributed to early sport specialization, too many pitches on too little rest at a younger age, and max-effort performance.
Tracy is an expert in her field, so she is speaking from a professional perspective as well as a concerned mom.  Our shared opinion is that we need to focus more on teaching the fundamentals, letting the kids have fun playing the game, and falling in love the sport as opposed to chasing weekend trophies, and a win at all cost approach.  We also agree on the fact that kids should multiple sports for as long as they possibly can.
Sports have a wonderful way of teaching us life lessons, the key is that we have let the game teach those lessons.
Tracy regularly consults with big league coaches for her expertise in training quality movement patterns, the space and transitions between positions, and mobility specifically as it relates to athletic performance and staying healthy.
Tracy’s Offseason Mobility program helped to keep every single Angelo State University player injury-free all season long contributing to their clinching the D2 National Championship this year. That same program has resulted in lower ERAs, increased velo, reduced injury, doubled Home Run rates, over a dozen big league call ups and benefits multi-sport athletes, too.
Tracy has been featured on MLB.com for her movement and mobility work with the Orioles and she’s got a book coming out in 2024 called “Shit About Movement You Should Know”.
Tracy has a degree in neuroscience + cognitive science from Northwestern University, previously had a corporate career in research at McKinsey & Company and now has over 1,000 hours in Yoga training, is a published Master Pilates Instructor, has a boatload of education, certifications and experience.
All this while raising 4 young kiddos, a dog, and a bearded dragon that regularly goes missing in her house.

Emma was born in the UK, grew up in Norway, and has lived in Cuba and the USA.
