Today is Make Music Day, an international day to celebrate people making music and lifting us all up with the power of their tunes, and what they do.

Dean was joined by artist Naavikaran on JOY Breakfast, who not only brings a special JOY Live Lounge to the show, but important conversations about disability, accessibility, the power of art and their newly released debut EP – CHIQUE DISCOTHEQ.

Mikey is (unfortunately) used to having homophobic neighbours that try to brighten his pride in Phillip Island, but he sure knows how to level up.

Mickey’s rainbow house made news around the world, as an amazing show of pride and community came together to help him shine in the face of homophobia, but now he has levelled up, move over Priscilla, theirs a new Pride Bus in town!

Trans icon BLÅHAJ means something special to so many in our communities, but Ted didn’t know that when he saved up some money, bought all the ones he could fit into his car and donated them to the children’s hospital in the US during Pride Month – and the world loves it!

My Moms name is David. He used to be a she but now he is a he!

Last year he did this thing called transition. He took some medicine which made his voice deeper and he started wearing different clothes. When Benjamins uncle accidently misgenders his dad David, Benjamin explains why misgendering is hurtful and why we need to treat trans people with respect.

Benjamin speaks with confidence about transitioning and gender identity, and helps to educate and empower others with trans relatives or friends. This brightly illustrated book for children aged 3 – 7 will aid discussion with children about a loved one transitioning or about trans people in general.

Featuring a child with a mom who has transitioned, this book passes on an important message about acceptance and respect, and covers pronouns, dysphoria, family diversity and misgendering.

I Am Not a Fox by Karina Wolf & Illustrated by Chuck Groenink



When Luca first arrives at the dog park, the other dogs turn him away. “You’re not a dog,” they say, “You’re a fox.” But . . . Luca likes to chase cats. He likes to yip at mailmen. And he likes sniff other dogs you-know-where.

Still, Luca has to admit, he doesn’t look like the other dogs. So . . . he must be a fox, right? But when Luca finds a trio of foxes in the forest and asks to join them, they don’t think that Luca is a fox at all.

After all, Luca acts just like a dog. Luca can’t seem to find anyone quite like him, but then he meets a caring little girl and finds something even better–a friend. In this heartwarming tale, Karina Wolf and Chuck Groenick remind us that you don’t need a label to find just where you belong.

Last week Minus18, an organisation championing for LGBTQIA+ youth and continuing to improve their lives by creating a welcoming, affirming and empowering space for them on and offline shared on their socials some of the harassment and hate they have been receiving ahead of their upcoming Queer Formal at the NGV.
