John records 7 miracles in his Gospel. Jesus did over 30 recorded miracles. John used these miracles to point to something about Christ. Often John called these miracles signs. This is the first miracle that any of Jesus' disciples saw. It would have impacted them that Jesus was the Creator, and thus God.

The emphasis in any lament is to turn. Turn to God in prayer. Lament never happens unless a person communicates with God.
