    Got Bible Questions?

    Got Bible Questions?

Dr. Jeremy GrinnelI earned his PhD in Systematic Theology from Calvin Seminary in Grand Rapids, MI, and taught theology at the graduate level for nearly 15 years. He’s takes on Bible questions today.

In 2 Sam 14:2 and 2 Sam 20:16: These 2 passages speak of a wise woman. Why aren’t  women named more in the Old Testament?

What will we be doing for eternity? We were born with certain talents and special abilities; will these be brought with us into the age to come?

What do we say to those who claim, “the Bible has contradictions, therefore, God can't be trusted?”

In Exodus 4:24-26, what the what is going on here?? Moses is on his way to Egypt to deliver Israel, and God decides to kill him? But then his wife steps in and saves the day. Please explain!

Do you think the physical body of the risen Christ is the same body he had when he appeared physically in the Old Testament? And will our glorified bodies in the age to come be similar to our bodies now?

What’s the difference between “believes,” and "obey,” in John 3:36? “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

Last, how do you handle the storms of life? Shawna shares that when her father was dying she learned that she would do anything to avoid that storm. But, when we remember that God is with us we can face any storm.

Drop Everything and Help Me Now

Drop Everything and Help Me Now

Perry got a call from his suffering friend demanding his immediate help. In that moment Perry had to figure out how to be patient, kind, and wise all at the same time! Patience is super hard in our on-demand culture.

We used to have to wait days or weeks to get a package in the mail. Now we expect it the next day or even same day delivery. We live in a culture that is fascinated with efficiency and shortcuts.

We have become accustomed to having our wants and needs met “immediately.” But in the haste to become more efficient, we often lose the gift of patience and the art of self-control.

Clinical Director at Winning At Home, Emilie DeYoung, shares the benefits of learning to wait, how to cultivate patience, and the need to keep an eternal perspective 24/7/365.

Also, in this episode Shawna shares that we can talk with God while talking with others. She shares a time when God led her through a painfully difficult conversation.

Last, guilt says, “You did wrong.” Shame says, “You are wrong.” Perry shares about his journey with shame, how it poisons and cripples, and what is the only antidote for it!

“I Finally Told My Pastor Everything”

“I Finally Told My Pastor Everything”

Many of us go through life pretending everything is perfect. Driven by fear, we hide behind a mask of confidence while secretly wrestling with self-doubt, anxiety, and isolation.  But we don’t have to live this way.

Author, speaker and Bible teacher, Ann White wore the mask for years until God prompted her to tell her pastor everything. Through discipleship she learned to stop letting her past interrupt her present and to move forward into God’s good plans for her life.

God has given you the courage you need to step into the authentic, abundant life he created you for. Rise each day inspired and empowered to overcome any obstackle and walk confidently in your faith with Ann’s new devotional, Courage for Today.

Also in the podcast, Lisa Anderson was single, pregnant, a teenager, and after she had her son was homeless for a season. As she rose out of the ashes she went garage sale-ing for a table. Hoping for a family to sit around that table someday.

That’s when she met Grace Adams and the table Grace had for sale. A table where 60 years of memories where made. And Grace said, “If you’ll promise to do the same thing, I’ll give you this table for what you have.”

And that’s how Grace’s Table, the ministry Lisa founded for single, teen mothers was born! An amazing story. Please share it!

“If Jesus Came Back Today, I Don’t Think I’d Be Ready”

“If Jesus Came Back Today, I Don’t Think I’d Be Ready”

This was what Perry realized just after his sophomore year in college. That he needed to make a major shift in his heart to follow Jesus, to be all in. He realized, following Jesus is not the freedom to sin, it’s the freedom to live a new life that leads to eternal life!

Then, why are you following Jesus? After feeding 5000, more and more people were following Jesus. They were hungry. Jesus told the hungry crowd, “I am the bread of life.”

Shawna shares about the anxiety she’s feeling right now. She feels weak. But she’s hopeful because God’s word says, “When we are weak, then we are strong.” And the way to tap into that strength, is to boast in our weakness!

God challenged Perry to give us his most prized possession when he was 22. His Ovation acoustic guitar. It was a way to reach a friend for Jesus but even more, it was a way to die to an idol in his heart.

Do you wonder if God has a plan for your life? If He does, what if you mess it up? Looking at the life of David we see how God uses every part of our lives, even our mess up’s, to fulfill His plan’s for us.

Shawna love tacos, and cinnamon rolls. And God loves her. We toss around the word “love” pretty easily. But the Biblical understanding of the word “Love” in Hebrew has a much richer meaning.

Hebrew Teacher, Melissa Briggs, says the word “love” or Chesed is not a fickle or weak love but rather a strong, committed, loyal, covenant, steadfast love – exactly what every heart longs for.

She also explains the Hebrew meaning of the words “help” and “fear.” For a $50 discount on Hebrew Learning Courses with Melissa use the code HEBREW50.

    God Is Writing Your Story

    God Is Writing Your Story

Life is filled with seasons that we don’t see coming. Some are beautiful and some make you feel like you have lost track of which way is up. Every day can feel like a battle. Christina Schug. Founder of Schug Counseling desires as a clinician is to come alongside you, or your child & family, as you navigate the challenges on your journey towards healing & deep, abiding peace.

Christina shares a time that she was looking in empty wells to quench a thirst that seemed unquenchable. Through the unrelenting invitation of a good friend she reluctantly attended a conference. That is where she experienced the living God and gave her life to Him.

Also, Shawna challenges us to think differently about faith. It’s more than what we believe about God. It’s how we live because of what we believe about God. Faith requires action!

Lastly, Scott reminds us that even though we are tempted to believe security can be found in a healthy savings account or a million other things we put our trust in, that God is a strong tower, the safest place of all. The righteous run into it and are safe.

Words That Leave a Lifelong Wound

Words That Leave a Lifelong Wound

Just a few words can have a lasting impact. Shawna, Ben and Perry share words that wounded their young hearts. I’m sure you have wounds of your own. Messages that landed in your heart that directly contradict how God feels about you. If God spoke to those wounds, what would He say?

Then, if you’ve made decisions that have left you and others hurt – that have brought you to a place that feels dark or desperate – you’re not alone.

Dr. Chris Rappazini, author of Moving Forward After Messing Up reminds us that God is the God of second chances. He shares about his regret in not going after his brother when he went off the deep end.

We talk about the difference between shame and conviction and how hard it is to forgive ourselves even when we know that we are forgiven by God.

Also, in this episode, Shawna reveals how not knowing what to tell her 8-year-old daughter accidentally led to a life shaping moment for both of them.

When Perry first gave his life over to Jesus on the playground in 5th grade, his first prayer as a believer was, “Lord don’t let me ever fall away.” It showed a desire to go the distance but also a fear of not really being safe forever. Can we know we’re safe in God’s family?

Lastly, Shawna shares how her short stint in beauty pageants left her feeling like every day she was walking the runway. Perry points out that she was being discipled in “perfection.” Shawna needed the gospel to remind her that she is already crowned in God’s eyes.
